What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard (Summer) position at YMCA OF INDIANA COUNTY?
SUMMER LIFEGUARD (up to 40 hours per week)
YMCA of Indiana County is seeking candidates who enjoy aquatics and are Lifeguard certified or interested in becoming Lifeguard Certified. We will work with your availability.
A variety of shifts and hours are available (afternoon and evenings during the week and weekends are available). You will receive a free employee YMCA membership with employment.
Opportunities for summer at Mack Park Pool as well as our indoor pool year-round.
GENERAL FUNCTION:
The Lifeguard has responsibilities in conjunction with the safety, cleanliness and operations during regular operational hours. The primary function of the lifeguard will be to safeguard the health and safety of members, class participants, and guests. Demonstrates a commitment to YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
EXPERIENCE - EDUCATION - KNOWLEDGE – SKILLS - ABILITIES:
- Previous swimming experience required.
- Ability to successfully complete Lifeguard Certification.
- Must be able to pass background clearances.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communicates effectively with participants, team members and supervisor. · Ensures the safety and welfare of participants and team members. · Assures compliance with YMCA quality standards and safety protocols related to the Aquatics department.
- Monitor pool and participants for safety of all swimmers during operation.
- Perform life-saving measures in the case of emergencies as needed.
- Communicates effectively with participants regarding safety and pool rules ensures rules are complied with for the welfare of everyone.
- Responsible for chemical reading of pool conditions according to aquatics code.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift
- Must be able to maintain skills for Lifeguard certification.
- Must be able to bend and stoop occasionally
- Must be able to lift 35 pounds occasionally
- Must be able to stay in the pool for an extended period of time
