Job Title: Adaptive Swim Instructor
Schedule: Around 2-6 hours a week, including afternoons and evenings (possible weekends)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Hourly Rate: $17.75
Reports to: Adaptive & Inclusion Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under supervision from the Adaptive & Inclusion Coordinator, the Adaptive Swim Instructor is responsible for providing safe, adaptive swim instruction tailored to the needs of individuals with varying abilities. This role requires strong communication skills, adaptability, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive aquatic environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Implement adaptive swim programs tailored to the specific needs of participants.
2. Monitor pool safety and enforce YMCA rules to ensure a safe environment.
3. Communicate effectively with supervisor, participant, and their families to assess needs and provide progress updates.
4. Maintain accurate records of participant progress and attendance.
5. Set up and clean up equipment and materials before and after each session.
6. Provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred.
· Prior experience working with individuals in an aquatics setting is preferred.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· Commitment to the mission and values of the YMCA.
· Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of individuals with varying abilities.
· Must be 18 years or older.

· The employee frequently is required to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment.
· The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
· The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
· Responsibilities require a flexible work schedule including evening/weekend hours and require travel to various locations. Must have a valid driver’s license.
· This position requires the individual to be comfortable in and around the water.
