Job Title: Assistant Camp Director (Non-Exempt)
Reports to: Senior Youth Development Director
Seasonal Pay: $1775 /$1950 per 2-week pay period

General Function: To provide supervision of the Summer Camp Adventure program, along with the associated camp staff. Assistant Camp Director is an enthusiastic, engaged, creative, and organized leader. Planning, facilitation and supervision of summer camp program and counselors. Under direction of Senior Youth Development Director, the Assistant is responsible for the daily operations of the program. Employee’s primary goal is to ensure the safety of all campers while providing a fostering, nurturing and safe program environment for both campers and staff alike.
Qualifications: Employee must be at least 20 years old. Position requires high school diploma and 2-years of experience in developing, organizing, supervision, implementing and leading camp programs and/or classes for youth ages 5-15. Organization and record keeping experience is a requirement.
Principal Activities:
* Assist Senior Youth Development Director with recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising all camp staff.
* Assist Senior Youth Development Director with evaluating staff based on job description and performance standards.
* Ensure that DSS and New York State regulations and guidelines are being followed in regards to the YMCA as a provider for youth programming
* Assist Senior Youth Development Director with preparing written materials for camp program, including brochures, flyers, parent manuals, emergency cards and interview paperwork,
* Assist Senior Youth Development Director with ensuring staff payroll is completed each pay period (collect, and signed)
* Ensure behavioral reports, CIT certification documents, and sign-in & sign-out sheets are completed.
* Handle/discipline/behavior issues as well as communication promptly with parents/guardians regarding camper progress and behavior.
* Enhance and practice the character development traits: honesty, caring, respect and responsibility.
*Participate in developing and instructing enrichment activities for youth.
* Participate in maintaining program records and reports (i.e. attendance & emergency records).
* Ensure that safety and security of children is a priority. Ensure that the required identification monitoring of all persons picking children up from the program is happening on an ongoing basis.
* Assist Senior Youth Development Director with planning, implementing, and facilitating, camp program plans for the summer, including themes, program supplies, program food, collaborations with community, and special guests
* Provide safety awareness and leadership for staff and campers
* Have daily verbal communication with staff, children, parents, and YMCA directors. Provide parents with as much information prior to “event” via written material, bulletin boards, white boards, and tripod flip charts.
* Assist Senior Youth Development Director in planning and conducting parent meetings to encourage congruence between camp staff, parents, and children.
* Develop and maintain a high level of communication and positive relationships with staff and parents.
* Attend all staff trainings, including Red Cross, disabilities, child abuse, etc., along with weekly staff camp meetings
*Observe necessary precautions to ensure the safety of program participants and maintain a clean, professional looking environment.
*Engage campers in all daily activities
*Assist Senior Youth Development Director with leading weekly staff meetings.
*Maintain DSS regulations and adult to child ratios.
*Supervise camp counselors; provide breaks for staff
* Develop and help youth complete a successful Counselor-In-Training (CIT) program, a certification program that trains and prepares teens to become outstanding camp counselors
*Assist with swim class organization.
*Assist Senior Youth Development Director with developing weekly camper groups
*Develop weekly bulletin board theme decorations.
*Complete all necessary paper work and child files for the upcoming camp week (Usually on Sundays).
*File all behavior and incident reports at the end of each camp day.
*Assist Senior Youth Development Director with hiring special guests for the camp week.
* Ensure correct procedures, tracking, storage and all parameters of CACFP food program is practiced
* Assist Senior Youth Development Director in planning, scheduling, and implementing weekly excursions and Camp field trips.
* Supervise administration of authorized medications to campers as indicated by emergency medical card and parent manual.
* Other duties as necessary and appropriated by Senior Youth Development Director
