Overview
We are seeking reliable, fun loving, energetic and open minded Lifeguard staff committed to working with youth for an incredible summer camp program. We are seeking those who are available for as much, if not all, of the camp season and training dates as possible.
This position maintains safe swimming conditions in the pond and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes camper safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA camp policies and procedures.
Camp Seewackamano is an outdoor, wooded area/ terrain location: Shokan, NY 12481.
Camp Seewackamano runs 6/30/2025-8/29/2025. Mandatory training dates TBD in June 2025.
Responsibilities
- Maintains active surveillance of the waterfront area including the boating and rope swing areas.
- Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA camp policies, and procedures. Completes related reports as required.
- Maintains effective, positive relationships with the campers and other staff.
- Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the waterfront and boating area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA camp and/or the state Health Department code.
- Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
- Checks the waterfront for hazardous conditions when arriving.
- Attends all staff meetings and in-service training.
Qualifications
- Minimum age of 15
- Certifications: CPR for the professional rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, and Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding or equivalentAbility to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with American Red Cross standards
