Reading Enrichment Teacher
Position Summary
We are looking for a certified teacher to work in the Summer Learning Loss Prevention (SLLP) program in a Summer Camp setting. The Reading Enrichment Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing and leading the educational activities of the SLLP program under the supervision of a Coordinator. The Reading Enrichment Teacher guides the academic and social development of children ensuring a safe, enriching, and healthy learning environment that promotes progress and learning.
Essential Functions
The Reading Enrichment Teacher will be responsible for the following:
Mission Advancement: Reinforces the Y’s values within the organization and the community. Effectively
communicates the benefits and impact of the Y’s efforts for all stakeholders.
Collaboration: Builds and nurtures strategic relationships to enhance support for the Y. Serves as a
community leader building collaborations based on trust and credibility to advance the Y’s mission and
goals. Communicates for influence to attain buy-in and support of goals. Provides tools and resources for
the development of others.
Operational Effectiveness: Integrates multiple thinking processes to make decisions. Involves staff at all
levels in the development of programs and activities. Ensures execution of plans. Institutes sound
accounting procedures and financial controls. Assigns clear accountability and ensures continuous
improvement.
Personal Growth: Fosters a learning environment embracing diverse abilities and approaches. Creates a
sense of urgency and positive tension to support change. Has the functional and technical knowledge and
skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in
technology.

Position Summary

The Reading Enrichment Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing and leading the educational activities of the SLLP program under the supervision of a Coordinator. The Reading Enrichment Teacher guides the academic and social development of children ensuring a safe, enriching, and healthy learning environment that promotes progress and learning.
Essential Functions
The Reading Enrichment Teacher will be responsible for the following:
- Prepare lesson plans according to the Four Blocks Literacy curriculum model.
- Work with the site director to administer the pre- and post- reading STAR assessments.
- Attend all required trainings and staff meetings.
- Instruct and facilitate according to the Four Blocks model and lead classroom according to the fidelity and quality requirements.
- Ensure 1:8 ratio is maintained throughout the literacy portion of the day.
- Meet daily with the teacher assistant to review activities and ensure continuity of classroom support strategies and to ensure desired program goals and outcomes are met.
- Proactively manage classroom behavior.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the individual needs of students (e.g. inclusion accommodations, English language learner strategies).
- Monitor and report to Program Coordinator weekly attendance, student progress and behavior.
- Assist the site director with planning and attend the parent/caregiver workshops.
- Work with volunteers and community partners, as needed.
- Decorate classroom according to weekly theme to create a stimulating learning environment.
- Set up for and clean up after all classroom activities.
- Collaborate with enrichment leaders to ensure literacy instruction is aligned with enrichment activities.
- Assist Site Director in other duties as assigned.
- Employee will accurate report work time via approved YMCA Clocking method
- Uphold and exemplify the YMCA’s Core Values and principles of Character Development.
- All other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Current State teaching certification.
- A minimum m of two years’ teaching experience in an early childhood or elementary education.
- Exceptional group management, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Experience in planning and delivering reading instruction.
- Must possess speaking, listening and writing, skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults.
- Must have flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of YMCA mission, purpose and goals, childcare policies and YMCA standards; ensures the program meets the highest standards of excellence.
