Training and Compliance Director - (MSCS)

Position Summary:

The Training and Compliance Director is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive training program for all employees within the Before & After School Childcare and Camp programs. This role ensures that staff receive the necessary training to provide high-quality care, meet safety standards, and uphold YMCA values. Additionally, the director oversees compliance with Tennessee childcare licensing requirements, state and federal regulations, and YMCA safety protocols to maintain the highest standards of care for children and families.

This position works closely with the Senior Vice President, as well as program directors and other leadership team members, to ensure alignment with YMCA policies, operational goals, and strategic initiatives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Training & Staff Development:

  • Develop and lead an ongoing training program for all childcare and camp employees, ensuring they meet or exceed YMCA and state requirements.
  • Conduct new hire orientation and new hire childcare training, continuous education programs, including CPR, First Aid, child abuse prevention, child development, curriculum, school & site operations and emergency preparedness.
  • Create and update training materials, including online and in-person modules, to align with best practices in child development, supervision, and behavior management.
  • Monitor staff training completion and maintain accurate records to ensure compliance with all training requirements.

Compliance & Licensing:

  • Ensure all programs adhere to Tennessee childcare licensing regulations, including staff-to-child ratios, facility requirements, and operational policies.
  • Conduct regular audits of program sites to assess compliance with licensing, safety, and risk management policies.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with state licensing agencies, responding to inspections, audits, and compliance-related inquiries.
  • Develop and implement corrective action and training plans in response to licensing violations or areas of concern, which includes on-site coaching and re-training
  • Keep up to date with changes in state and federal childcare regulations and adjust policies accordingly.

Safety & Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with child safety protocols, including YMCA risk management policies, mandated reporting, and emergency response procedures.
  • Partner with program directors to conduct safety drills, incident reviews, and risk assessments to identify and address potential hazards.
  • Works with Childcare leadership to investigate and document all major incidents around safety, parent complaints, and child protection.
  • Train staff in positive behavior guidance, conflict resolution, and de-escalation techniques to promote a safe and nurturing environment for children.

Collaboration & Leadership:

  • Reports to Senior Vice President but works closely with childcare leadership to ensure consistency in training and compliance across all sites.
  • Responsible for supports related to students with special needs
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with state licensing representatives, accreditation agencies, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Lead by example, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement among staff.
  • All other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in training, compliance, or program management within childcare, education, or youth development settings.
  • Knowledge of Tennessee childcare licensing regulations and national best practices for out-of-school-time programs.
  • Experience in curriculum development, training facilitation, and adult learning principles.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and learning management systems (LMS) for training tracking.
  • Ability to travel between program locations within Memphis & the Mid-South.

Certifications & Requirements:

  • CPR, First Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention Certification (or willingness to obtain within 90 days).
  • Background check and fingerprint clearance as required by Tennessee state licensing.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced childcare environment, including mornings, evenings and weekends for training sessions.
  • This position is a leadership position within the childcare team and will be called into work in inclement weather or unusual circumstances deemed necessary by the association leadership.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs and conduct on-site visits, which may require walking or standing for extended periods.

Pay range: $75,000 - $85,000
