Family Camp Counselor
YMCA Family Camp Nawakwa is hiring for the 2025 season. Our camp is nestled between Big Crooked and little Sugarbush lakes in Wisconsin, offering 180 acres of forest, wetlands, and lakes with endless opportunities for families to explore and create lasting memories.
**Job Summary and Key Accountabilities:**
Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Family Camp Counselor leads recreational activities with youth and families. This includes arts and crafts, sports, large group games, music, social recreation, camping, and various hobbies to promote wellness and support life skills development.

**Scope and Responsibilities:**
* Organize, lead, and promote recreational activities, including arts and crafts, fishing, campfire songs, nature hikes, archery, canoeing, kayaking, tie dye, small and large group activities.
* Create weekly programs to engage campers and provide a variety of experiences for campers of all ages.
* Teach socially acceptable behaviors to campers by serving as a role model and using techniques such as positive reinforcement and behavior modification.
* Enforce rules and regulations to maintain discipline and ensure safety. Monitor campers and intervene if they behave inappropriately or unsafely.
* Operate the Camp Store during scheduled hours, greet campers, operate the cash register, and organize products on shelves and racks.
* Set up activities and equipment, store equipment appropriately after use, and notify the Program Director of any broken or unsafe equipment.
* Keep camp areas clean by picking up litter, maintaining tidy cabins, and cleaning camper cabins on Saturdays and other times as directed.
* Serve as a lifeguard during guard hours, the triathlon event, and other waterfront activities. Support camp operations with other duties as assigned.
**Requirements and Qualifications:**
* Must be 18 years old.
* Lifeguard Certification preferred but not required. Obtain American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and AED certification prior to the start of camp.
* Strong interest, maturity, and judgment in working with campers in an outdoor setting.
* Knowledge and experience in camp-related activities preferred. Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to the mission of the YMCA are essential.
