What are the responsibilities and job description for the Collin County Adventure Camp - Outdoor Education Instructor position at YMCA OF METROPOLITAN DALLAS?
Collin County Adventure Camp seeks highly motivated Educators with a love for the outdoors and teaching for its outstanding Outdoor Education program. Collin County Adventure Camp is located on 430 acres of plush forest and Blackland prairie just 15 minutes northeast of McKinney, TX and serves thousands of elementary school students from the 22 districts in Collin County and beyond.
Duties: Leading trail lessons and activities such as: Lake Ecology, Canoeing and Fishing, Prairie Ecology, Man and Environment, Forest Ecology, Orienteering, Outdoor Living Skills, Pioneer Adventure, Archery, Conservation Projects, Low Ropes and Living Texas History. Hands-on education at its finest!
Other Duties: Evening programs, program maintenance, school visits, professional/peer development, field trips throughout north central Texas, regional conferences, minor construction projects, weather watchers, sustainable program development, community involvement, staff training, school meetings and teacher workshops. Become a better teacher while healing the social landscape. It's a lot of fun as well!
Pay Range: $75/day to $85/day. Great perks package, excellent housing, enriching teaching environment, hands-on outdoor instruction and meals while conducting programs.
Qualifications: BS/BA in Education, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Recreation, Ecology, Forestry, Biology, Outdoor Education, or degree in unrelated field and related experience; or currently working toward degree and related experience. Must have an interest and desire to teach elementary age students about the environment in a non-traditional setting. Previous teaching experience is a plus but this is also a great place to start!
REQUIREMENTS:
- Applicants need to be comfortable with social settings, tempo teaching, public speaking and facilitating conversations that will lead students to a better understanding of the natural world.
- Excellent communication skills, organized, flexible, and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Physically able to lead strenuous outdoor activities with children and perform light manual work.
- Mentally alert to recognize potential hazards and accidents.
- Mentally able to follow set procedures.
- Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies.
Desired, but not required: drivers license, CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard (or willingness to be trained upon hire).
Salary : $75 - $85
