What are the responsibilities and job description for the Swim Instructor, Group-Coppell YMCA position at YMCA OF METROPOLITAN DALLAS?
GENERAL FUNCTION
To provide swimming instruction for YMCA program participants. To conduct classes in a safe manner providing for skills acquisition and fun in classes. To be alert at all times, keeping in mind that the safety of the program participants is of the utmost responsibility. Directly responsible to the Aquatic Director.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES / POSITION RESPONSIBILITY
Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly. Develops positive relationships with participants and provides motivational support and guidance. To be properly dresses according to set standards. To enforce pool regulations for swimmers promptly and courteously. To maintain and record attendance and skill performance records on the proper forms, including progress reports. Encourages member and parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers. Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary. Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment. Trains and supervises class aides as assigned. To read and be familiar with the staff aquatic manual and appropriate National YMCA instructors text and conduct classes in accordance with these standards.
KNOW-HOW
16 years of age or older.
Current first-aid certification.
CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent.
Demonstrated ability to teach the development of swimming skills.
Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Ability to teach and lead others. Ability to effectively communicate with members, parents and students. Ability to provide motivational coaching to members. Ability to effectively communicate information on aquatics to members and participants. Exercises mature judgement.
