What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teen Camp Counselor - Crossroads position at YMCA OF METROPOLITAN DALLAS?
We are currently looking for Teen Camp counselors who are responsible for the supervision, safety and activities of children in assigned group while ensuring the safety of all children between the ages of 10-15.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES / POSITION RESPONSIBILITY
Will closely supervise a group of middle school-age children in all scheduled activities in the after school program; such supervision will consist of visual and auditory awareness of each teen in your care. Will follow all transportation procedures and sign-in and sign out procedures. Will follow the discipline policy set in staff training and regulated by the Texas Department of family and Protective Services. Will report supplies needing repair or depletion to the Teen Staff Lead. Will be completely responsible for the safety and well-being of each child in your care; must quickly move to attend to injured or ill child (be able to transport if necessary) and initiate first aid procedures. Will keep an accurate daily count of the children in your care each day and assist in the implementation of scheduled daily activities. Will follow the field trip procedure set at staff training. Will assist in set-ups and clean-ups of the after school site throughout the year. Will report any illness, injury, or suspected abuse to the Youth Development Director and Teen Lead Staff immediately following incident and complete any necessary reports. Responsible for routing and responding to phone calls regarding after school transportation.
Will attend all scheduled staff meetings, trainings, and any other meetings deemed necessary by the YD Director. Will implement site-evacuation/emergency procedures for fire, chemical spill, tornado, etc.
KNOW-HOW
Must be at least 19 years of age . High school graduate with at least 1 year experience working with youth. 15 approved and documented training hours to be accumulated during school year. CPR and First Aid Certified. Staff with no experience in licensed child care must also complete 8 hours of pre-service orientation. Training hours to be accumulated during school year. Staff must relate well to middle school age boys and girls and serve as a positive role model. Must have good judgment and values consistent with the mission of the YMCA. Must have current Drivers License. Must have or obtain valid TB test. Must complete Safety Series Training 30 days from hire. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to adjust from sitting to standing with ease. Ability to lift and carry at least 30 lbs.
