What are the responsibilities and job description for the Gymnastics Program Lead Instructor position at YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit?
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Youth & Family Program Director, all YMCA Gymnastic Instructors will function in such a capacity as part of the YMCA and adhere to all rules and codes of conduct set forth by the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Act as a positive, self-confident role model for Birmingham YMCA Gymnastics [BYG] class participants.
Maintain a professional demeanor appropriate for children at all times.
Promote the YMCA through personal example and member interaction.
Maintain a safe and effective learning environment for all BYG participants at all times.
Teach the three YMCA Gymnastics Recreational–Competitive Classes which are focused on Women’s Artistic Gymnastics [Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced]
Class curriculum is based on the USAG Level 1-3 Progressive Development Women’s Artistic Gymnastics program.
Must be willing to learn teaching techniques/drills/hand spotting for all three class curriculum.
Create and implement lesson plans and rotation schedules for classes.
Accurately assess gymnasts’ progress at the completion of each program session and provide recommendation for next class.
Maintain a general knowledge of the USAG-Level 4 routines.
Attend trainings and staff meetings.
Monitor Gymnastics Instructor Aides when in the Gymnastics Center.
Create and distribute relevant communications to parents of class gymnasts and respond to any questions that arise.
Assist with equipment maintenance, including cleaning and advise Head Coach of equipment needs and repairs.
Set up and take down equipment on each class day.
Start classes on time, take attendance, and emphasize safety and proper technique at all times to both Instructors and gymnasts.
Know and follow all YMCA emergency procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned and agreed upon.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Have at least 2-3 years’ experience in the field of gymnastics through personal participation or instructing.
Must be able to communicate well with others, be a team player, and have good leadership skills.
Must have the ability to resolve any conflicts that arise with gymnasts or parents.
General knowledge of YMCA programs and procedures required.
Experience training competitive gymnastics preferred; general knowledge of gymnastics required.
Experience/ ability hand spotting preferred; willingness and ability to learn hand spotting preferred.
Experience working with or teaching youth gymnastics preferred; interest in learning to work with or teach youth gymnastics required.
Must have current CPR and First Aid certification or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
