General Function
Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Water Exercise Instructor teaches aquatic exercises classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement.
Education/Experience/Training/Certifications
Minimum age of 18
Current CPR-Pro, First-Aid, AED, Emergency
Current AEA Aquatic Fitness Professional or other nationally recognized certification or YASA (YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant) and YMCA Water Fitness Instructor Certifications.
Certification in specialty areas of expertise desired. (SilverSneakers Splash®/Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program, etc.)
At least one year of experience teaching group/water exercise classes preferred
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes
Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
Maintains records and attends meetings and trainings as scheduled.
Abilities & Skills
Ability to conduct classes and activities in and out of the water.
Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
Ability to communicate verbally and nonverbally to the participants in the class.
