Education & Experience
Must have prior experience teaching beginning to intermediate horsemanship skills and either English and/or Western riding lessons. Prefer someone that has experience teaching both disciplines. We have a great herd of horses and multiple riding and teaching areas including a cover arena with lights.
Required Skills
Must be at least 18 years of age (21 preferred), be dependable, honest and trustworthy and able to work independently. Riding instructors will work with students ages 7 through adult. Lessons include both mounted and unmounted skills that will follow a progression.
Candidate should also be able to halter, lead, tie, and work safely around horses. Should know the basic riding aides, and how to teach walk, trot and lope skills for mounted lessons and have an understanding of various tack, grooming skills, equine anatomy and saddles for ground lessons.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include teaching basic horsemanship skills and basic to intermediate riding lessons to students age 7 and over according to YMCA guidelines. We will train you on the guidelines, but a basic knowledge of organized lessons (CHA, PATH, AQHA, etc.) will be a plus. Additional hours may be available assisting with weekend groups, general care and feeding and barn chores.
