SUMMARY

To further the mission of the camp through the planning and delivery of a programs that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers' ages and abilities.

Under the guidance of the Center Executive Director, Seasonal Camp Directors are responsible for the organization, delivery and quality of YMCA camping services summer resident camp programs, program participants and community. This position works independently under general direction and is expected to determine how to accomplish tasks

QUALIFICATIONS

AGE : Minimum age of 25.
Education - Bachelor's degree from a four-year College or university in recreational management, physical education, or related field or two to three years related experience.
CERTIFICATIONS - Current certification in first aid and CPR (or willing to obtain during employment).
Reasoning Ability - A calm and professional demeanor, Self-motivation and follow-through, Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, Strong people skills , ability to solve practical problems. Previous experience or knowledge in Aquatics, Ropes Course Facilitation, general Maintenance and Housekeeping procedures preferred.
Driving - California Class C or B with Passenger / Airbrakes Endorsement, current 10-year clean driving record
This is a residential position : room and board in a dorm style housing can be provided for the duration of the program, and residential staff must share supervision duties at night

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Camp Director is in charge of helping to create a positive camp environment for all participants and staff

At least two years of experience in a supervisory role.

A passion for adventure programming and camping!

A love for working with youth, adults, and staff in a fast-paced environment.

RESPONSIBLITIES

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Trains, and develops non-exempt and part time program staff and volunteers

Plans, assigns, and directs staff and volunteer work.

Conducts performance appraisals, rewards and discipline

Monitors and updates all required staff certifications

Addresses complaints and resolves problems

Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events

Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.

Reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Plays an active role in continuing to identify ways to improve safety standards.

Maintains effective, positive relationships with members, participants and other staff.

Uses problem solving skills to make quick decisions, instruct, evaluate, supervise, and recognize the potential for danger or injury.

Participates enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning, and leading those as assigned.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS OF POSITION :

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.

This position requires staff to live on site and share residential camp day and night assignments.

Ability to communicate and work with guest participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.

Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist guest in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.

Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering program in the facility available.

Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat.
