Do you love being outdoors in Michigan's summertime? The Lansing YMCA’s Camp PaWaPi is looking for an energetic, organized, and dependable Sports Supervisor for the Summer 2025 Camp Season.
Camp PaWaPi is a 28-acre site east of Williamston, acquired by the Lansing YMCA in 1953. For more than 70 years, Camp PaWaPi has provided area youth with the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve--all while enjoying nature and building strong bodies, spirits, and relationships.
As part of the Y's Camp Department, the Sports Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day sports programs at Camp PaWaPi, under the direction of the Camp Director. They will be responsible for instruction of all sports-related activities, including physical education sports. The Sports Supervisor will also be the lead in the zipline operations, providing a safe, informative zipline experience for campers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain a positive attitude at all times and act in a professional manner when interacting with members, program participants, and other staff.
- Understand and follow all Michigan camp licensing rules and procedures.
- Oversee the instruction of sports lessons during class period and take the lead in all camp sport activities during designated periods.
- Train all camp staff in the proper and safe techniques of archery.
- Provide oversight for the maintenance, inventory, storage, and replacement of sport equipment.
- Provide, enforce, and maintain the safety standards and regulations of the sports program.
- Responsible for the care and upkeep of all sports and zipline equipment.
- Support growing a culture of respectful use and maintenance of sports equipment, the skills required for the safe usage and enjoyment of the equipment, and the process utilized to build skills and competency in the appropriate staff and campers.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with both adults and children in both group and inviditual settings.
- Be able to handle stressful situations clamly and effectively.
- Be able to handle multiple tasks and be creative and motivated.
- Daily opening and closing procedures of zipline course.
- Supervising the progress and experience of each rider.
- Conducting pre-tour safety orientation for each rider.
- Responsible for low ropes course training for counselors.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum of two years’ experience working with children.
- Experiences in high-adventure programing (i.e., rock wall, zipline, etc.).
- Required certifications in Archery (Level 1 Instructor); High Adventure; Low Ropes; Catch Curriculum.
- Outgoing, friendly, and enthusiastic personality. Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to accept supervision and guidance as well as constructive feedback.
- Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
- Completion of YMCA trainings within a required time frame.
