What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructor Aquatics Group Exercise position at YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee?

Under the direction of the Aquatic Leader, and in accordance with the policies of the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee, the Instructor of Aquatics Group Exercise will be responsible for instruction of shallow and deep water exercise classes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide excellent member service to all participants.
- Model and uphold the Character Development Program and departmental policies and procedures as established by the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee and the Aquatic Department.
- Conduct classes in accordance to the Group Exercise 101 principles of exercise through demonstrations, verbal instructions and observation of technique.
- Physically demonstrate proper technique both in the water and out.
- Maintain safety and well-being of all participants through alert and careful observation of exercise intensity and technique.
- Maintain a professional, responsible and positive attitude at all times.
- Be prepared to teach an entire session and find own substitutes when necessary.
- Consolidate class equipment and return the equipment to the proper areas.
- Attend scheduled trainings, in-services and staff meetings.
- Maintain all appropriate certifications including BLS/AED/O2 and First Aid.
- Con solidate class equipment and return the equipment to the proper areas.
- Be committed to the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee’s Child Abuse/Neglect Prevention efforts as a mandatory reporter.
- All other duties as assigned.
- A nationally recognized water exercise instructor certification is a plus but not a requirement.
- The following certifications are not required at the time of hire but must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment:
- BLS, Oxygen and First Aid.
- Water exercise instructors must be able to pass a physical test including:
- Swimming 100 yards,
- Tread water for 2 minutes
- Be able to hoist themselves out of the water without using a ladder or steps.
- Water exercise instructors must be able to teach in hot, humid environments.
- Instructor of Aquatics Group Exercise must be able to teach in hot, humid environments.
- Instructor of Aquatics Group Exercise must possess good verbal and written communication skills.
- The incumbent will exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.
