Under the direction of the Summer Camp Director, the Wellness Coordinator is responsible for monitoring and addressing the physical, mental, and social wellbeing of all Minikani campers. The Wellness Coordinator will work with the Minikani Health Officer to provide top quality health care to campers and staff, and thoroughly document and communicate all concerns appropriately. The Wellness Coordinator will work with Minikani Unit Directors to address camper emotional and behavioral issues, coming up with plans that the meet the mission of Camp Minkani.
The Wellness Coordinator will create a summer-long program that meets the developmental needs of all Minikani campers and fosters their development. They will prioritize building relationship with all those involved in Camp, including campers, staff members, parents, alumni, and community members.
- Understand and implement the Vision and Values of Camp Minikani and the YMCA.
- Build relationships with campers, staff, AD Staff, Camping Services team, parents, and alumni.
- Serve in an Assistant Health Officer role in the Health Center, providing support to the Health Officer for all medical concerns.
- Assist with opening day check in for resident and day camp, performing lice checks, checking in and sorting medications, and addressing parent concerns.
- Ensure YMCA Incident Reports and First Report of Injury forms are being completed accurately and filed appropriately.
- Document all medium to major health concerns appropriately in Excel document (any incident where an Incident Report was completed).
- Find and bring campers to the Health Center who are late for their meds.
- Walk campers back to their group when they are departing the health center if after sundown or if camper does not know where they are going.
- Clean and restock Health Center as needed.
- Assume role of Acting Health Officer on Health Officer’s day off.
- Address camper emotional and behavioral issues with Unit Directors.
- Formulate written emotional and behavioral plans for camper issues and share with Summer Camp Director.
- Ensure frequent and clear communication with parents for all camper concerns.
- Document all camper behavioral and emotional issues, with appropriate plan of action, timeline, and communication schedule in Excel document.
- Serve as an approachable resource for staff seeking support for mental, emotional or social health and wellbeing concerns.
- Proactively check in with staff throughout the summer to assess wellbeing and offer individualized support or connection to additional resources when needed.
- Facilitate intentional wellness programming for staff, such as mindfulness sessions, reflective group discussions, informal check-ins, or community-building activities.
- Actively pursue opportunities for positive reinforcement for campers and staff, including shout-outs during meetings.
- Take notes regarding positive and constructive observations of counselors and provide this feedback to Unit Directors for evaluations.
- Aid in programming for groups where a camper has behavioral or emotional issues that could use more assistance.
- When time allows, spend time with camper groups, especially with cabins or groups with one staff member.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of effective staff training.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Summer Camp Director.

- Must possess collegiate experience in Education, Recreation, Psychology, or Youth Development OR equivalent experience.
- Should have a positive history of leadership in the areas of staff development, relationship building and program management.
- The proven ability to establish and maintain favorable relationships with people of diverse backgrounds required.
- First Aid, and CPR Pro certifications required.
