Job Title: 3 Year Old Teacher
FLSA Status: Non Exempt
Status: Full Time/Part Time Department: Child Care
Reports to: Child Care Director/On Site Supervisors
POSITION SUMMARY:
Operating within the policies, procedures, and practices of the Newton YMCA, this position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This positons is responsible for creating a safe, positive and nurturing environment for children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Create a welcoming, hopeful, determined, genuine and nurturing atmosphere that fosters a sense of belonging among the children and helps then gain confidence through achievement.
2. Create and maintain a safe environment both physically and emotionally for all.
3. Nurtures children through programming dedicated to building achievement and relationships among youth and within families.
4. Supervises children, classroom, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate.
Follows all procedures and standards.
5. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations needed to develop a portfolio for each child.
6. Cultivates positive relationships, conducts parent conferences, and maintains effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA.
7. Maintain program site, equipment and required program records.
8. Attend and participate in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
9. Adhere to the Federal Food Program guidelines
10. Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Y’s mission statement and values by maintain the Y-
Voice in all that you say and do ~ welcoming, hopeful, determined, genuine, and nurturing.
11. Establish positive relationships with parents and their children.
12. Implement curriculum within the established guidelines.
13. Organized with the ability to prioritize, multi-task and problem solve.
14. Make sure schedules, supplies, materials, etc. are ready for each day.
15. Must comply with DHS/licensing standards.
16. Adhere to policies as stated in the YMCA Childcare Employee Handbook.
17. Must stay in compliance to the Federal Food Program guidelines.
18. Must conduct themselves in a professional manor at all times in and out of our program site
19. Perform additional duties as assigned by all program directors and site supervisors.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting and the Quality rated process preferred.
2. Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions.
3. Must be at least 16 years of age (If under age 18, must be working with 18 adult).
4. Must complete the following trainings:
CPR-PR/AED/First Aid Certifications or equivalent certifications approved by the YMCA
Blood Borne Pathogens Training or equivalent training approved by the YMCA
Approved Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter Certification
Complete a full background check
Emergency procedure training
All DHS approved staff trainings
5. Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
6. Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
7. Understands the YMCA is a public accommodation committed to inclusion and compliance with the

8. Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
9. Must have strong communication and organizational skills.
10. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
