Responsibilities:
YMCA Camp Tumbleson Lake is seeking an enthusiastic Climbing and Challenge Course Coordinator to guide our climbing and challenge course specialists across our high and low ropes course, power pole, flying squirrel elements, top roping and rappelling rock, and bouldering wall. We are looking for a creative and adaptive leader who is looking to share their love for the outdoors through accessible and engaging outdoor education. Beyond coordinating and mentoring some of our camp’s population, our ideal candidate understands the power of community and teamwork and is eager to collaborate with and support the rest of our 100-person staff throughout the summer. We are looking for staff who have an "I've got this" mindset, who show initiative and a solution-oriented attitude.

- Supervises 10-12 staff and resident and day campers through climbing programming such as ropes courses and top roping and bouldering.
- Reports directly to the Resident Camp Director.
- Collaborates and works with other Challenge Course Instructors, Camp Counselors, Unit Directors, and Waterfront Instructors as needed.
- Maintains ropes and climbing equipment, including inventory, and reports any defective equipment to their supervisor.
- Lives in cabin and/or glamping tent accommodations, including with Camp Counselors and campers as needed to provide ratio.
- Assists with other programming, including all camp activities and mealtimes, as needed.
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all campers under their supervision, including maintaining appropriate staff to camper ratios as required.
- Maintain a professional presence through appropriate staff and camper interactions and adheres to Associations and Camps codes of conduct.
- Attends all scheduled bus chaperone assignments on check-in and check-out days.
- Attend all required staff meetings on time.
- Adheres to program standards and expectations including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Models’ relationship-building skills for campers and staff.
- Problem solves, communicates, and documents camper behavioral issues as they arise, and passes them off to leadership staff members as needed.
- Incorporate the mission, philosophy, and 5 core values of the YMCA of Northern Colorado in all communication with participants and staff-members.
- Other job duties as assigned.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Previous experience working with youth preferred.
- Completion of: Child Abuse Prevention, CPR/AED, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens. (We provide this as part of staff training week)
- Completion of YMCA ropes-specific certification during Staff Training.
- Completed ACCT Level 1 Certification required (can complete after hiring), Level 2 preferred.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
