Description
The Part-Time ESL Coordinator oversees ESL (English as a Second Language) programming across multiple sites within our YMCA Literacy Initiative through the YMCA of Northwest NC. Responsibilities include teaching, student assessment, curriculum development, attendance tracking, volunteer recruitment and training, and fundraising support. The ESL Coordinator ensures compliance with WIOA requirements, CASAS testing, and LEIS (Literacy Education Information System) forms, while fostering student success in workforce and educational pathways.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Oversight & Multi-Site Coordination
- Manage and oversee ESL instruction at multiple sites, ensuring program consistency and effectiveness.
- Serve as the primary contact for ESL program operations, troubleshooting issues and ensuring smooth site operations.
- Support site instructors in implementing evidence-based instructional strategies aligned with WIOA and state requirements.
- Attend meetings, program events, and represent the program at internal and external functions
Instruction & Student Support
- Teach ESL classes as needed, integrating workforce preparation, digital literacy, and career readiness.
- Develop a student-centered, contextualized ESL curriculum aligned with WIOA guidelines and career pathways.
- Implement student retention strategies, such as personalized learning plans and career coaching.
Assessment & Data Management
- Conduct CASAS pre- and post-testing to measure student progress and program effectiveness.
- Accurately complete and submit LEIS forms for all students in compliance with state and federal reporting requirements.
- Track and maintain student attendance, progress, and outcomes across multiple locations.
- Ensure data integrity and timely reporting in LACES, TEAMS, or other state-approved systems.
Volunteer Recruitment & Training
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteers to assist with ESL instruction, tutoring, and student support services.
- Develop and implement volunteer training sessions to ensure alignment with program goals.
- Serve as a liaison between volunteers and instructional staff to enhance program effectiveness.
Fundraising & Community Engagement
- Support the organization's Annual Impact Fund Campaign by participating in fundraising initiatives and outreach efforts.
- Assist in developing relationships with donors, sponsors, and community stakeholders to promote program sustainability.
- Represent the YMCA Literacy Initiative programs at community events, advisory board meetings, and professional conferences
Qualifications
- Literacy Certification/or ESL Certification required
- Bachelor’s degree in Adult Education, English or related field from four-year college or university preferred
- Prior teaching experience required
- Ability to teach adult students from different backgrounds
- Display patience and cultural awareness
- Bilingual (Spanish/ English) preferable
