POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The After-School Van Driver provides safe transportation to and from program sites while maintaining all required passenger ratios for after school programming. The After-School Van Driver ensures safe and quality program operations that promotes the five core values of the YMCA: caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith as well as upholds our service standards of welcoming, connecting, supporting, and inviting.

  • You'll support the commitment of the YMCA to child abuse prevention by:
  • Report any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor.
  • Follow all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children.
  • Report any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor.
  • Complete all child abuse prevention training as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Be a positive YMCA role model for the entire after school program by modeling:
    • The YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility & Faith
    • The YMCA service standards: We Welcome, We Connect, We Support, We Invite
  2. Drives YMCA vehicle fleet safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws. This position is not eligible to drive the YMCA bus.
  3. Must possess a current Class D driver’s license. A J08 Restriction is required to transport seniors.
  4. Follows all passenger requirements for the YMCA Vans: up to 14 passengers plus the driver.
  5. Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and records all information. Records gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms. Cleans out vans each day.
  6. Promotes safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
  7. Ensures that van rules are announced and followed.
  8. Develops friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children.
  9. Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.
  10. Assists with supply runs as necessary.
  11. Supports programs to reach the goals and stated objectives.
  12. Ensures a strong focus on character development and diversity, equity and inclusion throughout programming.
  13. Reports damaged equipment or safety hazards promptly.
  14. Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Rock River Valley.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Minimum one-year work experience as a driver preferred.
  • Possess a current Class D driver’s license and obtain the J08 Restriction.
  • Must maintain a history of a clean driving record. Motor vehicle records will be checked annually as a condition of employment.
  • Motor vehicle records must meet and remain acceptable according to the MVR eligibility criteria.
  • Desire and ability to work with children.
  • CPR, AED and First Aid Certifications required within 90 days.
  • Praesidium Academy trainings.
  • May be required to pass fingerprinted background check per grant requirements.
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others.

SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION

1 Position
Part Time, Non-Exempt
Monday through Friday 3:00 - 8:00 pm (hours may vary)
$15.00 per hour
