POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Membership Director oversees the development and operations of enhancing a member-first culture that meets the community's needs through relationship-building with members, staff, volunteers, and participants at our facility branches. This role directs all membership activities for all facility branches including branch events, recruitment of new members, retention of existing members, and supervision of assigned staff. Member engagement and staff development are key areas of focus for the position with an emphasis on facility safety, staff management, and member-service standards.

WORK LOCATION
This position will oversee membership operations in two branches: Northeast Family YMCA and Puri Family YMCA. Regardless of primary assignment, this position may be required to travel between sites as needed.

- You'll support the commitment of the YMCA to child abuse prevention by:
- Report any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor.
- Follow all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children.
- Report any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor.
- Complete all child abuse prevention training as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Teaches and demonstrates the Y’s values of honesty, respect, responsibility, caring and faith.
- Collaborates with the Membership Director and Branch Executive Director to fulfill all administrative needs to support programs and operations for all association membership staffing, training, operations and programming.
- Builds relationships with and among team members. Creates a supportive community environment. Responsible for recruiting and engaging new staff members and connects them to the YMCA’s cause.
- Trains, develops, schedules and directs Relationship Managers. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Cultivates strategies to motivate staff and increase staff retention.
- Conducts new hire training, staff meetings, audits and retraining when needed.
- Be visible and approachable to YMCA members and staff. Identifies and takes ownership of solving problems in a professional manner. Always conveys a positive attitude when interacting with members, guests and staff.
- Models relationship-building skills, including Listen First, in all interactions. Responds to all team members and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
- Prepares and submits departmental budgets, reports, payroll, operating plans, and other assignments within the designated time frame and with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Assists with achieving key deliverables in the areas of Fiscal Management, Fund Development, Staff Development, and Quality Results as explained in the branch Vital Signs documents.
- Collaborates with the Marketing department to effectively market and promote all membership and programmatic opportunities.
- Attends all required training events, staff meetings, and supervisory conferences.
- Serves as a frontline Relationship Manager for shift coverage as needed including participating in Manager on Duty schedule as assigned.
- Maintains contact lists and yearly staff training plan.
- Ensures staff certification records are current and that staff fulfill all training requirements.
- Supports Branch Executive Director to ensure that all programs comply with YMCA standards and methods of operation to the highest possible level of quality.
- Approves vacation time, maintains schedule, and approves time sheets for Relationship Managers.
- Works collaboratively with Relationship Managers, Building Supervisors and association leadership.
- Ensures a strong focus on character development and diversity, equity and inclusion throughout programming.
- Reports damaged equipment or safety hazards promptly.
- Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Rock River Valley.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
- Knowledge and experience in all aspects of operations, including staff supervision and development, membership growth practices, program development and implementation, volunteerism, facility and property management, and financial practices.
- Innate ability to develop and motivate staff by setting examples, coaching, and mentoring them.
- Strategic thinking, planning experience, and exceptional time management abilities, capable of managing various tasks concurrently and meeting challenging timelines.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Record of accomplishment of building authentic, constructive relationships with others.
- Strong written skills, verbal communication skills, and computer skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Publisher.
- CPR and First Aid certifications are required within 90 days of hire.
- Praesidium Academy trainings.
- YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
