POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer and in accordance with the YMCA of Sandusky County’s policies, the Membership Director is responsible for leading the YMCA’s membership sales and service as well as implementation of strategies that will result in a high quality, membership centered YMCA. The Membership Director will also handle Accounts Receivable
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, experience and certifications – Bachelor’s degree preferred with a minimum of 5 years of proven success in sales and/or customer service, within the YMCA or equivalent professional experience as a manager/consultant of a sales territory in a related industry. Certification requirements include CPR/AED, First Aid (certification will be provided if the candidate does not already have these certifications).
Skills And Abilities – With an understanding of the YMCA mission as well as the goals and objectives of the strategic plan, this person must be able to implement programs in accordance with YMCA of the USA standards. Must be able to handle multiple tasks and must be creative, motivated and a self-starter. Must be outgoing, friendly, knowledgeable and be able to form connected relationships with Partners in Healthy Living, staff and members. Must be able to project enthusiasm to other staff and members. Must be able to work independently as well as with a staff team. Incumbent must have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including being able to present to large groups. Must have computer skills and proficiency in the Microsoft Office & Google applications. Those with experience in Core(member management software) will be preferred. .
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The incumbent must have proven leadership skills in sales and customer service, fiscal management, team building skills, and Corporate Wellness account management to successfully carry out his/her duties in accordance with the YMCA’s mission and strategic plan. Other important functions of the Membership Director include:
- Implements and evaluates all aspects of the membership function, including the Sales and Service teams, in accordance with YMCA of Sandusky County’s guidelines and with direction from the Senior Director of Operations.
- Develops, monitors and maintains a working knowledge of membership types and rate structures; including short term memberships and membership payment options.
- Handles all accounts payable and receivable processing and reconciling.
- Maintains accurate records and is accountable for all data generated by the sales and service team leaders and staff.
- Develops, manages and monitors assigned operating budgets to meet or exceed targets. Recommends adjustments to the budget to assure a balanced operation and submits reports on current operations.
- Able to function within the YMCA’s operating system for the purpose of sales, service, member engagement, monitoring and basic accounting information.
- Accountable for developing systems to track and report all tours and guest activity in internal tracking systems.
- Builds relationships with sales and service team members.
- Maintains working knowledge of all YMCA program areas and provides responsive service to requests from program staff, members, and community partners.
- Develops, implements and monitors action plan for the achievement of monthly prospect, appointment, membership sales, and membership attrition of first year contracts.
- Manage Partner in Healthy Living accounts and participate in events that promote membership sales and retention.
- Handle monthly insurance billing for third party memberships.
- Provides excellent staff and member service in both phone and in person communications and interactions.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops and directs all related staff in the membership and Child Watch departments.
- Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Develops and directs high quality member engagement strategies and programs which support branch and association mission, goals and strategies.
- Accomplishes marketing and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
- Achieves sales operational objectives by contributing marketing and sales information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; determining system improvements; implementing change.
- Provides staff support for assigned committees. Provides staff leadership for annual campaign.
- Maintains accurate records for the membership function, branch and staff.
- Communicates any suggestions to improve the branch operations to the appropriate staff member.
- Increases staff and member awareness of healthy lifestyle factors.
- Be capable of facilitating and attending designated trainings.
