POSITION SUMMARY: The Trip Leaders are responsible for delivering exceptional camper experiences and other essential elements of the travel program. Ideal candidates must be passionate about the outdoors, extremely flexible, and creative, with a talent for teaching and leading up to 12 teen campers, in conjunction with the tripping director. This role involves camping, meal planning, running leadership activities, and embracing new challenges each week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Possess visual awareness to identify hazards in the camp setting and auditory ability to respond appropriately
- Demonstrate ability to hike with full backpacking supplies
- Adhere to all rules and regulations in the Code of Conduct
- Observe camper and staff behavior in daily camp life, responding to health and safety concerns, and dealing appropriately with improper behavior
- Develop and execute programs related to specific travel camps, including planning and running a wide range of activities, menu planning, meal preparation, field trips, and camping supervision
- Collaborate with the tripping director to ensure proper boundaries and rules are followed by campers
- Maintain accurate documentation as required by the camp director
- Utilize established systems for communication with other camp departments
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience as a group counselor or staff member in a camp setting; trip leading experience is preferred
- Extensive experience in the outdoors, either personally or professionally, with knowledge in backpacking, rock climbing, and water sports
- Flexibility and maturity, with the ability to work independently and with minimum supervision
- Effective communication skills, both with peers and youth
- Strong belief in and promotion of the values of the YMCA of Silicon Valley, as well as the individual worth of the campers
- CPR and First Aid certification (can be obtained upon hire)
- Lifeguard certification (can be obtained upon hire)
