The Communications Specialist will play a key role in advancing the YMCA’s mission through strategic marketing and public relations. Based at our association office in Wilmington, NC, this full-time position will support the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina by helping to tell impactful stories, fostering relationships with the media, and promoting the YMCA’s programs, services, and community impact. The ideal candidate will have a passion for effective communication, a strong grasp of digital marketing, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to amplify the YMCA's mission.
Content Development & Proofreading
- Assist with writing and editing content for newsletters, press releases, email blasts, blog posts, and social media updates to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
- Proofread communications to ensure all materials adhere to YMCA branding and quality standards.
Impact Marketing & Storytelling
Support the planning and execution of impact marketing projects, including the Y’s annual report, the creation of Y story videos and testimonials, and annual giving campaign materials.Coordinate and participate in video shoots, interviews, and other storytelling initiatives that highlight the YMCA’s impact on the community.Media Relations
Establish and maintain strong relationships with media contacts to promote YMCA initiatives, events, and stories.Respond to media inquiries, arrange interviews, and pitch story ideas to increase media coverage of the YMCA’s work.Assist with organizing press conferences, interviews, and other public relations events.Digital & Social Media Support
Contribute to the development of digital and social media content that engages and informs target audiences.Track and report on media and social media engagement metrics to measure the effectiveness of communication efforts.Event Promotion & Support
Collaborate on marketing and promotional efforts for YMCA events, including coordinating promotional materials and assisting with event setup and coverage as needed.General Support
Provide additional support as needed to the Marketing and Communications Director and team to ensure timely completion of communication projects and initiatives.Requirements : Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.Ability to create compelling, impactful content for diverse platforms.Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently on assigned tasks.Desired Skills :
