RESIDENT CAMP UNIT LEADER JOB DESCRIPTION:
A Resident Camp Unit Leader position is open at this beautiful 300-acre camp in Oracle, Arizona, just north of Tucson. FREE On-campus housing is available, which includes utilities. This leadership development role in a resident camp setting offers a meaningful experience for campers while promoting YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. The Resident Camp Unit Leader ensures the safety, well-being, happiness, growth, and development of campers and staff by providing leadership to counselors and supporting their ability to meet camper needs. Key responsibilities include assigning cabin units, enforcing policies and procedures, scheduling time off and stay-over weekend staff, managing camper discipline, addressing staff needs and concerns, creating a positive staff culture, and serving as a mentor and leader for all
staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A RESIDENT CAMP UNIT LEADER:
● Assists with and facilitates staff training sessions, provides guidance and motivation to staff to form strong leadership with campers.● Attends daily meetings with the Executive Director and collaborates with camp leaders, staff, the Resident Camp Activities Leader, and the Executive Director to ensure a safe and high-quality camp program.
● Assists with check-in and check-out processes, and develops and manages staff activity schedules, evening program schedules, and camper schedules.
● Assists in preparing cabin packs for check-in day and camper packets for departure day. Ensures counselors review and return all necessary forms. Assigns cabin assignments to counselors on a weekly basis.
● Supervises the morning flag ceremony and manages staff time-off schedules, ensuring flexibility to meet their needs while maintaining a successful program.
● Ensures compliance with ACA, Department of Health, and YMCA of Southern Arizona standards, policies, and procedures in all areas of camp. Documents and communicates all staff and camper concerns in an appropriate and timely manner to the Executive Director.
● Ensures counselors maintain accurate camper headcounts and never leave groups unsupervised, while adhering to the camp's schedules and planned activities.
● Drives YMCA vehicles both on property and off to transport campers, staff, and/or supplies to activity areas and/or field trips.
● Manages camper discipline, ensuring all staff and camper concerns are properly documented and communicated with the Executive Director. Assists with Camp Reports as needed.
● Ensures the camp stays on schedule for all meetings, activities, and meals. Creates a supportive environment that nurtures the social, emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of staff and campers.
● Provides leadership and models excellent customer service to provide a welcoming environment for all staff, members and guests by following customer service best practices.
● Delivers a personalized approach when engaging with program participants that creates a positive experience. This includes (but is not limited to) introductions to other YMCA program areas and services.
● Has the ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations while adhering to the safety policies and procedures set by the YMCA of Southern Arizona.
● Actively participates in program activities, events, staff meetings, and staff training sessions.
● Follows all YMCA procedures, policies, guidelines, and protocols.

QUALIFICATIONS OF A RESIDENT CAMP UNIT LEADER:
. At least twenty-one (21) years of age.● High School Degree or GED.
● At least two (2) years of experience leading and working with children in a resident camp setting.
● Background in childcare preferred.
● Ability to plan, organize, and implement age appropriate and developmentally appropriate program activities.
● Previous experience with diverse populations and/or the ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
● Possesses excellent customer service skills and has a camper first mindset.
● Current CPR, First Aid, AED certifications or completion within thirty (30) days of hire.
● Current Fingerprint Clearance Card.
● Possess a three (3) year driving record that meets or exceeds YMCA’s insurance requirements.
● Successfully pass a drug screening.
● Completion of YMCA’s online and behind the wheel driving training.
● Completion of YMCA’s online training within seven (7) days of hire.
● Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
