We're looking for a enthusiastic and experienced lifeguards to help lead our seasonal waterpark operations!
GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Aquatic Coordinator and/or Director, the lead guard supervises the work of YMCA lifeguards and swim instructors. Acts within the scope of the branch, association and national goals, objectives and policies to reach the objectives of the aquatic area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- ASSIST with the supervision of aquatic staff and volunteers; UTILIZES YMCA Quick Check cards to evaluate effectiveness of lifeguards. REPORTS to the Aquatic Director any job related concerns with employees, volunteers, members or co-workers.
- ACTS as a role model among staff, volunteer, members and guests.
- ENSURES that YMCA Aquatics Safety policies and pool operating procedures are enforced at all times. Safety of participants and employees is the single overriding objective.
- ASSIST Aquatics Director with the development and implementation of in-service training. ATTENDS all required staff meetings and in-service trainings.
- MEETS with other Lead Lifeguards monthly. RECORDS meeting minutes and REPORTS details to Aquatics Director.
- ENSURES that pool opening/closing procedures are followed and daily/weekly maintenance duties are fulfilled. PERFORMS inventory of pool supplies/equipment; REPORTS needs to Aquatic Director in a timely manner.
- MAINTAINS and RECORDS chemical readings, temperature and daily attendance sheet as needed.
- ABILITY to work a flexible schedule in order to meet the needs of the YMCA.
- MAINTAINS all required job certifications.
- PERFORMS other duties as assigned.
ABUSE RISK MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS:
- Adheres to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
- Attends required abuse risk management training.
- Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
- Adheres to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. If currently employed by the YMCA of Southern Nevada, the employee cannot have any disciplinary action reports in his/her file within the last six (6) months. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Preferable age - 21 Minimum age – 18 in conjunction with education and experience requirements.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- High school degree (minimum)
- At least one (1) full year of aquatic lifeguarding experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Current CPR, AED, Oxygen, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen Certifications (required)
- Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (required)
Salary : $14 - $15
