GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Preschool Director, the Preschool Teacher supervises groups of children and implements YMCA activities.
HOURS: This is a full-time position. The hours are Monday - Friday from 7:00am - 3:30pm.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
(1) CONDUCTS and ORGANIZES class activities.
(2) SUPERVISES the other teachers under the direction of the Youth & Family Director.
(3) FOLLOWS specific YMCA Standard Operating Procedures. (i.e., roll call of participants, sign in/out of all children attending program, parent greetings, cleaning and straightening of supplies in the area.)
(4) INPUTS data, tracks, grades, and classifies children’s progression using the anecdotes method established by COR.
(5) CREATES and IMPLEMENTS program activities.
(6) DEVELOPS curriculum following the High Scope methodology.
(7) PROMOTES and EMBRACES Character Development in curriculum.
(8) SERVES as a positive role model for program participants.
(9) BUILDS and MAINTAINS a high standard of member service for all program participants.
(10) PROMOTES safety as an overriding objective in all programming efforts.
(11) PERFORMS all other duties as assigned
ABUSE RISK MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS:
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with children.
- Attend required abuse risk management training.
- Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising children.
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
Qualifications
Preschool Teacher Qualifications:
- B.A. or A.A. degree in early childhood education, OR CDA (Child Development Associate) and willing and able to work with YMCA and state TEACH program to attain a Bachelor's Degree.
- Substantial and documented work experience in the childcare industry plus two years related experience or training
- Previous experience working with special populations (e.g. children with special needs and families with diverse socio-economic backgrounds) is beneficial
- Bi-lingual Spanish/ English preferred
