The YMCA of Southern Nevada is currently seeking qualified candidates for 21st Century Site Instructional Staff II for summer 2025 and beyond. Position Summary
All children and teens have potential, but some may need additional support to reach it. Research shows that young people from underserved and low-income families often start school underprepared and fall behind their peers as a result, creating an opportunity gap. Through focused programming and support, the Y is committed to closing this gap. he Y is closing the academic opportunity gap with programs that improve students’ educational readiness, engagement and outcomes, while helping them grow emotionally and physically, too.
Teaching assistants are responsible for supporting lead teachers with the implementation of the BellXcel Power Scholars program, as well as homework assistance, academic enrichment, and family engagement events. This position requires high energy, enthusiasm for the YMCA’s mission, and flexibility.
LOCATIONS:
Programs will be held at Griffith, Parsons, Katz, Garehime, Twin Lakes, McMillan, and Wasden Elementary Schools.
Dates And Hours
We are now hiring for our summer 2025 programming, with the hope that you will stay on and support our afterschool programs in the fall. Summer training will be held from May 17th - 24th, and the program will begin May 27th. Summer programming will be held on weekday mornings or afternoons. During the school year our afterschool programs run from 2:45pm-6:00pm, Monday-Thursday.

Essential Functions
- Participates in regular trainings, meetings, and staff development;
- Ensures proper implementation of the YMCA of Southern Nevada’s Youth Development policies and procedures;
- Works closely with supervisors, school administration, parents, and teachers to develop strategies for student success;
- Ensures activities are delivered as intended under the approved funding application;
- Maintains a safe and secure site location with established emergency procedures;
- Working with small groups and/or individual scholars via video conference, pre-recorded videos;
- Implement collaborative teaching strategies to a cluster of scholars;
- Support the development and delivery of relevant, engaging, and rigorous lessons;
- Ensure the academic and social development of scholars throughout the course of the program;
- Work with teachers to identify scholar needs and develop instructional plans and practices to best support scholars;
- Support attendance tracking and management;
- Support classroom and behavior management consistently to develop a safe and productive learning environment;
- Family outreach in support of scholars
- Performs all other duties, as assigned.
- 1-2 years of experience facilitating out-of-school-time programming, preferably within underserved communities preferred
- Bi-lingual in English and Spanish, preferred
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Academic skills –proficiency in elementary math and literacy.
- Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with diverse populations.
- Ability to build relationships and influence scholars, staff, community members & families remotely.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Love and respect for children.
- Working with Children within 30 days of hire.
- Current American Red Cross Certifications in CPR and First Aid within 30 days of hire
- Must be 18 years or older
