As a key member of the Summer Camp staff team, the Camp Director is responsible for creating a safe fun and positive atmosphere that promotes camper engagement, a strong staff team, and an excellent summer camp experience in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Under the direction of the AED, the Summer Day Camp Director is responsible for the implementation and development of but not limited to Day Camp, Outdoor programming, Camp family programming, and Ropes Course Group Programming.
We are looking for welcoming, motivated, kid-experienced staff, who are 21 years or older. Most importantly, we are looking for people who are passionate about fun, the outdoors and day camp.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature.
- Responsible for the operation of summer day camp site(s) assigned, consisting of between 60-100 campers weekly from June through August.
- With the AED, ensure that all required standards and guidelines set forth by DCF and the YMCA.
- Support staff recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision for Summer Day Camp
- Servers as a member of the Camp YMCA Staff Team, assisting with special events, programming and committees as assigned.
- Maintains and further develops contacts and relationships with area schools, community agencies, and businesses.
- Responsible for neat and organized upkeep of assigned YMCA facilities and equipment.
- Implements programs that identify safety, quality, and excellent customer service as top priorities.
- Ensures a welcoming experience, greets parents and campers by name, maintains positive relationships with the participants, parents/guardians, and other camp staff.
- Assist with leading summer camp staff trainings that include safety protocols, appropriate supervision tactics, group songs, games, and crafts, and engages campers in learning activities.
- Develop and implement weekly camp activity station and schedules.
- Implement educational activities to summer camp to help stop summer learning loss and weekly themed activities.
- Know, understand, and consistently apply all safety rules.
- Communicate with parents and caregivers in a professional manner that represents the Y regarding their child’s activities/day.
- Provide great stewardship for YMCA fiscal goals, including staff schedules, field trip costs, and supply costs.
- Possess a willingness to work with youth and have FUN.
- Able to be a role model for campers and teens in our programs.
- Lead with initiative, enthusiasm, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Attends all staff meetings and training as assigned.
- Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
- Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
- Follow all YMCA of Southwest Florida policies, rules, and regulations.
- Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma required. Associates’ college degree preferred.
- One to two years related experience preferred, as a coordinator or supervisor of childcare programs.
- Minimum age requirements may apply; for example, minimum age of 21.
- Ability to develop, train and implement quality developmentally appropriate activities.
- Ability to present a positive image for staff, participates, colleagues, supervisor, and the community.
- Flexible and willing to adapt to changing needs.
- Strong interpersonal skills and team oriented.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), PPT, Publisher and Canva a plus
- Exemplary customer service skills.
- Ability to organize and prioritize activities.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to handle sensitive issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Possess the knowledge, understanding and ability to use current technology related to job assignment.
CERTIFICATIONS AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications prior to the first day of the program.
- 40 Hours of Child Care Certification preferred.
- Successfully complete State of Florida Criminal History Background Check requirements as well as meet the Association’s policies on background screening.
- Adhere to drug/alcohol/smoke free workplace policy.
- Additional training classes as recommended by Supervisor.
