What are the responsibilities and job description for the Before and Afterschool Head Teacher - Golden View position at YMCA of the East Bay?
We are seeking energetic team members for our Y-Kids Program. Y-Kids is a structured before and after school program that offers a great start and finish to every school day. Staff facilitate education and recreation opportunities, fun physical activities, healthy snacks, and positive reinforcement. With a strong focus on STEM, we encourage innovation, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and creativity in all our kids.
POSITION SUMMARY:
These general functions will be carried out in keeping with the Goals, Policies and Mission of the YMCA of the East Bay. Provide direction for the program and classroom and implements program curriculum. Provide a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Continuously act as a role model to all children.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Plan and implement culturally relevant curriculum within established guidelines and prepare necessary supplies & equipment for relevant program activities. Provide leadership to the other staff in the classroom.
2. Work cooperatively with all staff to ensure the quality of the program.
3. Provide direction to Assistant Teachers as needed.
4. Help to achieve YMCA Child Care program goals by promoting individual growth and exploration, recognizing each child’s needs while providing opportunities to enrich their development.
5. Care for the health and well-being of children while they are in the program. Give first aid treatment when necessary and report any incidents or injuries promptly to parent, director and branch as necessary.
6. Provide appropriate and consistent discipline methods that reinforce positive behaviors in an age appropriate manner.
7. Report and document notable behavior and situations to the appropriate supervisor, according to policies and procedures.
8. Assist Site Director with recruiting and hiring process. May assist with scheduling and monitoring.
9. Maintain positive relationships and work collaboratively with administration, families, teachers and staff at the school site(s) to best serve the needs on the children and families.
10. Provide support for administrative staff to collect/report data required monthly and quarterly and annually as required by the contract(s) and/or grant(s).
11. Positively explain and interpret program standards and policies. Provide ongoing and continuous feedback to parents regarding their child’s development, including parent conferences and assessments.
12. Maintain required program records.
13. Attend and actively participate in regular program activities, department trainings, staff meetings and special events as scheduled.
14. Keep the center clean and presentable at all times.
15. Ensure Licensing standards/regulations are met at all times.
16. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
· AA Degree, BA/BS degree preferred
· Meets educational and experience qualifications established by CA state law and Community Care Licensing including 24 ECE units, 16 GE units, 6 administration units, 15 hours health and safety or alternative qualifications on CDP
· 2 years related experience in school-based learning
· A high degree of cultural awareness and competency in cross-cultural practice with children and families
· 3 years of previous experience working in a professional child care or school aged program
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
· At least 18 years of age
· Pre-employment health screening and TB clearance
· Current certificates for Pediatric First Aid and CPR, including a total of 15 hours of preventative health and safety training or completion of this training within 90 days of hire
· LiveScan fingerprint and criminal record clearance
· Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and other computer programs necessary to perform the duties of the job.
