POSITION SUMMARY :
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under general supervision of the Program Director and Head Cook, the kitchen crew will clean dishes and pots and pans, utensils, plates, bowls, cups and any other kitchen equipment. They will arrive at a predetermined time prior to each meal to assist in the preparation of the meal as well as clean up. The kitchen crew is part of the Camp Staff team, providing service to User Groups and Camp Edwards. Responsibilities also include, cleaning of facilities, helping guests as needed, group retention, customer service and an understanding of the mission of the YMCA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Perform dishwashing responsibilities according to sanitary requirements and department procedures.
- Responsible for maintaining in good working order all dining hall / kitchen equipment (i.e. ovens, Hobart, mixers, coffee maker, etc.) and advising Head Cook of all said equipment needs.
- Responsible for unpacking and properly storing all arriving food and equipment orders and for ensuring that all food in the walk-in refrigerator and freezer is properly organized, packaged and / or wrapped.
- Maintain appearance and integrity of all food service facilities and operations.
- Follows the YMCA personnel policies, practices, salary administration plan, emergency procedures and risk management procedures.
- Accept daily / weekly assignments from the Head Cook and Camp Director as assigned.
- Responsible for the cleaning and sanitizing, and the use of, napkin holders, salt and pepper shakers and other dining hall food service equipment for each meal.
- Assist in preparing dining hall set-up, Kitchen Patrol (KP), and clean-up.
- Assist in daily / weekly clean-up projects that include, but is not limited to, mopping, sweeping, dish washing, trash, and general clean-up of dining hall and all food service areas.
- Assist in Dining Hall supervision which includes but is not limited to the following :
- First day camp orientation of dining hall procedures : set-up, serving, and clean-up.
- 45 minutes before each meal, a check for proper table setting has been cleared with the Head Cook and list items on the board next to the dish shelf.
- 15 minutes before each meal give complete instructions to the camp Kitchen Patrols. KP's are taught table setting and proper procedures for serving and clearing.
- During all meals, supervision of the KP's is maintained.
- Assist in weekly inventory of all goods is maintained and list is turned in to Head Cook.
- Responsible for daily all dishes, silverware, and serving items pass the post-meal inspection. Dishwashers are responsible to check : daily, all dishes, silverware, and serving items are properly put away : after each meal all pots, pans, and other items are properly put away : Equipment is at least 15 minutes prior to each meal the dish washing machine is set up and all items needed for clean-up are set out.
- Responsible for post meal clean up.
- Follows the YMCA personnel policies, practices, salary administration plan, emergency procedures and risk management procedures.
- Maintain a good working relationship with all Camp staff and Camp Director.

Typically, camp counselors will not be scheduled to work more than 54 hours or six days in a workweek. Overtime pay will not be provided to camp counselors who work 54 hours or less in a workweek, or six days or less in a work week. Applicable overtime pay will be provided to camp counselors if they work over 54 hours in a workweek, or more than six days in a workweek.
