Farm Animal Lead

The salary for this position starts at $16.50 hourly. We take into consideration an individuals background and experience in determining salary; therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of other benefits and earned time off that vary depending on part-time or full-time status. 1. Job Summary : The Farm Animal Lead is responsible to developing and delivering farm animal educational programing for camp participants at Camp St. Croix, DayCroix. Teach classes and convey educational materials to 414 year-olds in the animal area during four separate class times / day, five days a week. Teach class to care for the animals and how to spend time with them in meaningful and respectful ways. Support the understanding of why famers have animals, and where meat and other animal-based products are sourced. 2. Essential Functions : Develop and deliver age-appropriate educational programing around concepts of farm animals for human use, companionship, consumption, help, etc. Care for the animals during the summer, both inside and outside of program time.Graze animals across the pasture (sheep, egg layers, broilers) in a rotation. Ensure high aesthetic standards in the space, which will require mowing and maintenance outside of educational time. Support other aspects of the farm, including but not limited to the high tunnel, discovery garden, farm store, and pizza nights. 3. Relationships : This position reports to the Camp Program Director and works closely with Program Directors, the Site Manager, alumni, and the Canoe Fleet Management Committee. This role represents the camp to external partners and stakeholders, fostering relationships to enhance camp operations and visibility. 4. Qualifications : Required Experience with small farm animals (sheep, goats, chickens) and the care they require.Experience in, agriculture, agricultural education, sustainability and natural resources, environmental education, STEM, or Youth Development.Ability to work with and welcoming to people of all ages, abilities, and cultures.Experience working with children of all ages.An inherent desire to do life-changing work, while listening carefully to others, patiently serving, and being open and kind.Staff are required to follow policies and procedures of YMCA Camp St. Croix. Preferred Bi / multilingual 5. Work Conditions : Seasonal summer position. Programming begins June 1st and runs through September 1st.Full-time hours : Monday-Friday 8 : 00a-4 : 30p, 40 hours / weekAbility to stand and walk for up to eight hours outdoors, be prepared for exposure to a variety of weather conditions and be able to complete responsibilities in those conditions.Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. 6. Salary : $17
