For over 100 years, YMCA Camp Cormorant has offered spirit, tradition, leadership, and exceptional facilities to campers. Founded in 1903, Camp Cormorant is one of the oldest overnight camps in the entire nation. The camp is nestled on 80 acres of wooded property with an extensive beachfront on Big Cormorant Lake. We are located approximately six miles south of Lake Park, MN, in the heart of Minnesota lakes country. No day at camp is just a typical day. This position is the primary caregiver for campers. This position is responsible for planning, teaching, coordinating, and carrying out activities and guiding campers in their personal growth and daily living skills.
- Ensures that the American Camping Association (ACA) standards are followed
- Greets campers and parents upon arrival.
- Assists campers with getting settled into their assigned cabin
- Assists in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in their cabins, within activities and throughout camp in order to meet the intended camper outcomes.
- Helps lead and assist with the teaching of activities. Actively and enthusiastically participates in all program areas as assigned.
- Assists with cleaning up dining hall after meals
- Be a role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior. Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures. Set a good example to campers and others in regard to general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule and sportsmanship.
- Works efficiently and effectively as a team player
- Discusses any concerns with the Camp Counselor
- Assists with evening programs, campfire and leading songs; assists with leading one evening per week
- Assists in other areas of camp as needed.
- Completes end of season evaluation
