What are the responsibilities and job description for the YMCA Head Lifeguard position at YMCA of the Palm Beaches?
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This full-time (Saturdays a must) position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Assumes a lead role during shift and directly carries out leadership responsibilities to effectively oversee, train, guide and evaluate staff (attendance, rotations, safety rule enforcement, etc.) Serves as a role model and resource for staff and maintains professional communication and behavior at all times.
Creates scheduling, staff absences and securing substitutes to assure the pool is adequately staffed. Performs the lifeguard or swim instructor duties as needed.
Remains familiar with pool and program schedules and communicates effectively to assist staff, members and program participants during transition times (swim lessons to open swim, lap swim usage, etc.)
Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area. Knows, understands, and consistently applies and enforces safety and pool rules, policies and guidelines with members and program participants.
Knows all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
Is responsible for assuring the outlined procedures for opening/closing the pool area are fully completed.
Is responsible for making sure all cleaning tasks are being completed daily/weekly by staff and also performs the necessary tasks to clean and maintain the pool area.
Assists in monitoring locker rooms for cleanliness/safety.
Records and keeps accurate records of all pool chemical readings and takes appropriate action as needed including reporting discrepancies to Program Director, troubleshooting and assisting with fixing any problems.
Assists with preparation, planning, set up and implementation of special events, swim lessons, etc.
Communicates with and maintains effective relationships with the members, participants and other staff.
Documents and notifies Program Director of incidents/accidents, member questions/concerns, damaged equipment, supply needs, etc.
Responds seriously and confidentially to suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and follows mandated reporting requirements related to abuse.
Maintains certifications listed under Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations.
Receives and carries out instructions.
Maintains regular and predictable attendance. Secures a substitute if unable to cover scheduled shift and notifies Program Director of schedule substitutions prior to the change.
Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
