This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Healthy Living Director develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA Healthy Living, Personal Training, Small Group Training, and Group Fitness programs to enhance the member and program participant YMCA experience. You will promote long-term involvement through a variety of exceptional programs and services that result in nurturing the potential in children (youth development), supporting members in their wellness journey (healthy living), and driving advocacy and community awareness (social responsibility). The Healthy Living Director provides center level leadership in helping create transformational change in the health and wellbeing of our community member’s lives.

- Executes a High Level of Engagement through our Jump Start Program working with our membership team to set members up on their Jump Start
- Establishes a sustainable Revenue Based Small Group Training Program utilizing all aspects of the branch
- Develops implements, directs and supervises program activities to meet the Healthy Living department strategy
- Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Identify strategic collaborative partnerships that congruently align with the YMCA’s strategic priorities
- Executes strategies to ensure that members and/or program participants connect with one another and connect with the YMCA
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, supervises, schedules and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete
- Leads through inspiration and role modeling
- Facilitates collaborative communication and provides leadership
- Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/boards as Develops and maintains effective working relationships within the community
- Administer the approved budget and take appropriate action to maintain the fiscal integrity of the department
- Manage equipment and facilities in areas of responsibility including preventative maintenance and repair and replacement planning
- Continually develop personalized healthy living programs in order to meet the needs of all members
- Participate in all exempt staff retreats
- Ensures that program standards are met, and safety procedures are followed
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information
- Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner
- Coordinates special events and activities
- Champions all association wide healthy living goals on the center level
- Minimum age of 21 years old
- Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Health Promotion or Health Education or three years of general work experience in related fields or a combination of education and work experience in related fields
- Previous experience hiring, supervising, coaching, and mentoring staff
- Experience with program design, implementation and retention
- The ability to connect with and relate to all generations is essential
- Due to the diversity of responsibility, a high degree of organizational ability is needed
- Strong skills are necessary in supervision, management, expense control, public relations, promotion, and public speaking, written and verbal communication skills, fundraising and record-keeping
- Must have ability to deliver programs of the highest quality and have a knowledge/background of group exercise and personal training, and small group training
- Successfully complete all YUSA online training within 60 days of hire
- Must have current YMCA of the USA Foundations of Group Exercise OR current ACE Group Fitness Instructor, AFAA Group Fitness Instructor certification, NETA Group Exercise certification, ACSM Group Exercise certification
- Current certification of personal training in one or more of the following AAPTE, ACSM, ACE, NSCA, AFAA, NASM, NETA, Cooper Institute, IFPA, NCCPT, NCSF, NESTA required
- General knowledge of fitness principles and training adaptations including basic anatomy and physiology
- Two or more years of experience personal training and teaching group exercise is preferred
- Experience or interest in Special Populations and/or Evidence Based Programs is preferred
- Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certification
