This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Youth Development Site Director will be directly responsible for organizing and implementing school age childcare programs. You will provide leadership and direct supervision to staff and groups of children during the school year in Before & After Programs, Adventure Days, and Break Camps as well as during Summer Day Camp. You will oversee administrative and program details while having the opportunity to create positive and nurturing relationships with children. You will also be a role model in building cooperative relationships with the parents/caregivers. As the Site Director you will promote and support the potential of all youth in programs and facilitate peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall participant experience.

  • Site Director
    • Supervise B&A Site, Adventure Days & Break Camps, as well as Summer Day Camp site throughout the year and as needed.
    • Be available to substitute, in or out of ratio, and travel throughout the region we serve (Fountain to Monument).
    • Provide supervision and leadership in efforts to mentor & coach counselors and aides within region on YMCA Association standards, state licensing requirements, and other job related functions
    • Complete supply procurement & purchase as needed for your program.
    • Demonstrate fiscal accountability by following assigned budget guidelines.
    • Provide a safe and nurturing, yet fun environment for children and staff
    • Evaluate children’s engagement and needs; be fundamental in creating growth opportunities for the kids in your program.
    • Maintain timely and professional communication and kind relationships with parents, peers, & supervisors.
    • Primary in responding to all accidents and incidents within your program.
    • Identify need for and provide positive guidance that is age appropriate and maintains respect for the child in any behavioral situation.
    • Treat all children with dignity and respect and allow for individual differences. Provide an atmosphere of acceptance and caring for each child and show as much individual attention as possible to each child.
    • Implement a curriculum that is age appropriate and helps a child reach their full potential in each area of development.
    • Collaborate with other colleagues
    • Be familiar with and adhere to the program’s policies, health and safety regulations, emergency procedures and be ready to implement if necessary.
    • May be required to work hours outside of normal work schedule for training, extended program hours, parent nights, or association events.
    • Maintain state licensing and YMCA association standards and minimum guidelines.
    • Demonstrate proper care and storage of equipment and supplies as well as program space.
    • Complete routine and required forms to include, but not limited to attendance records, observation records, incident and injury reports.
    • Prepare snacks or meals as assigned. Provide leadership, guidance, and respect to your fellow peers.
    • Modeling good character and hygiene habits.
  • Curriculum Coordinator
    • Research for, organize and prepare curriculum for department to include
      • Preparing age appropriate activities for a wide range of age groups
      • Provide clear instructions for each individual activity
      • Have monthly schedule templates ready for sites to post on boards
      • All supplies ordered and prepared for distribution adhering to budget guidelines
    • Provide communication regarding curriculum (i.e. curriculum notifications, if staff have clarifying questions, ready for print/pick up, etc)
    • Curriculum for school out day programming (schedules & activities prepared)
    • Prop boxes for Curriculum
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Verifiable *education or training in work with school-age children in such areas as recreation, education, scouting or 4-H
  • Completed at least one of the following qualifications
    • A four (4) year college degree with a major such as recreation, outdoor education, education with a specialty in art, elementary or early childhood education, or a subject in the human service field; OR
    • Two years of college training (60 credits) and six (6) months (455 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience, since attaining the age of eighteen (18), in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children; OR
    • 21 months (3185 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part time, paid of volunteer, experience and one of the following qualifications
      • Complete six semester hours, or nine quarter hours in course work from a regionally accredited college or university; OR
      • Forty (40) clock hours of training in course work applicable to school-age children and the department approved courses in injury prevention, and playground safety for School-Aged Child Care Centers within the first nine months of employment.
    • A current early childhood professional credential level 2 or higher in version 3.0 as determined by the Department based on its Early Childhood Professional Credential 3.0 Worksheet.
  • Additional teaching and/or educational license/certificate is a big advantage
  • In-depth knowledge of child development
  • Must enjoy working with children

  • Creative and artistic teaching abilities
  • Attention to detail
  • Great amount of patience and flexibility
  • Experience in the supervision of other employees
  • Verifiable and Satisfactory experience includes experience in the care and supervision of four or more children from the ages of four (4)-eighteen (18) years old, unrelated to the individual, since attaining the age of eighteen (18). Babysitting and Nannying are not accepted.
