POSITION SUMMARY:
Various shifts. Please provide days and times you are available.
Provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes.
Performs other departmental duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson
plans accordingly.
2. Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect
with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential
volunteers.
3. Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers
students and parents to other programs.
4. Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
5. Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
6. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and
safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
7. Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
8. Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum age of 16
2. Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid and Emergency Oxygen
certifications within the first 60 days of employment
3. Ability to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards and must
have the ability to tread water for two minutes, demonstrate proficiency in a minimum of
four of the following six swim strokes by swimming 25 yards of each: Front Crawl,
Breaststroke, Sidestroke, Butterfly, Elementary Backstroke, and Backstroke.
4. Obtain YMCA Swim Instructor certification within 60 days of employment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Ability to verbally lead group activities.
2. Adequate mobility, sight and hearing to effectively supervise program participants.
3. Sufficient strength and agility to perform essential functions of position including the
ability to lift a child who weighs approximately 50 pounds.
4. Ability to instruct, demonstrate and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.

Starting Pay Range: $12.00 - $14.00 per hour
