GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Aquatic Director, the Aquatic Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the daily management of the Aquatic Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Shares responsibility for ensuring the safety of pool users and all pool deck areas during pool operating hours.
  • Assists with safety meetings and updates
  • Supervises, trains, and schedules staff.
  • Assists with management of pool and filter area including ordering of pool chemicals and supplies.
  • Supervises all aquatics staff including lifeguards and swim instructors.
  • Assists with the development of new programs according to operational goals and objectives of the Aquatic Department.
  • Responsible for Swim Lessons Program quality and implementing training programs (CPR, Lifeguarding certs, etc.)
  • Addresses and resolves concerns from parents and students about swim classes.
  • Monitors pool maintenance.
  • Assists with the development, coordination, and implementation of summer camp programs.
  • Assumes Director responsibility in Director’s absence.
  • Assists with all facets of the Aquatic program.
  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: May assist with supervision of up to 20 staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work, evaluating performance, rewarding, and disciplining employees.

CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Jeff Ellis and Associates Lifeguard Instructor. Certified Pool Operator. Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Current First Aid.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be alert at ALL times and be attentive to the activity within the pool area. The employee is regularly required to hear, walk, bend, and stand. May be required to run and/or swim during drills and emergency situations. The employee is occasionally required to sit for extended periods of time and be exposed to chlorinated water and sun and endure other weather conditions. The work environment is usually moderate to noisy/loud. Must be able to lift and/or move heavy equipment and containers of pool chemicals of up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust and focus.

EFFECT ON END RESULT: This position has a direct impact on the overall effectiveness with which the YMCA accomplishes its goals and objectives to the community. The effectiveness of the Aquatic Coordinator will be evaluated annually. General performance will be evaluated as follows: knowledge of job, achievement of planned results, relations with fellow employees, quality or work, attendance record and attitude. Achievement of specific objectives outlined above will also be assessed. A positive attitude and a high level of enthusiasm should be exhibited while performing duties.
