POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Provides direction for the children in the program and follows program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building STEAM achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Follows curriculum within the established guidelines.
- Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and ithin families.
- Supervises the children, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Follows all procedures and standards.
- Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
- Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA.
- Maintains required program records.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
PROGRAM SPECIFIC DUTIES

- Maintains program site and equipment.
- Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
- Provides staff leadership for annual fund-raising campaign and committees as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certified teacher or equivalent experience required for grades K - 8.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications required.
- Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
- Required DCF 45 hours.
- Previous experience working with children in an educational environment providing STEAM curriculum.
- Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
- Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

The effectiveness of the Child Care Counselor will be evaluated annually. General performance will be evaluated as follows: knowledge of job, achievement of planned results, relations with fellow employees, quality of work, attendance record and attitude. Achievement of the specific objectives outlined above will also be assessed. A positive attitude and a high level of enthusiasm should be exhibited while performing duties.
