POSITION SUMMARY:
The Marketing & Communications Intern will play a key role in enhancing the YMCA of the Triangle’s online presence and engagement with our diverse community across various social media platforms as well as assisting in shooting and collecting video assets. The coordinator must have a passion for social media and communications, excellent communication skills and a commitment to the YMCA’s mission.
This is a Seasonal Part-Time role working 22–27 hours a week, with the possibility of continuing beyond July 2025.
The Marketing & Communications Intern is responsible for managing those functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and the Board of Directors of the YMCA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Under the direction of supervisor, and in collaboration with the Association Social Media Coordinator, develop and execute social media content collection and scheduling across our branches and programs in the Triangle to promote YMCA programs and impact, support membership engagement, YMCA initiatives, and encourage community engagement and support.
- Create compelling and visually appealing content for social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and other channels in alignment with ongoing Marketing campaigns.
- Support the management the YMCA of the Triangle's social media profiles ensuring consistency in branding and messaging.
- Monitor social media channels for relevant conversations, trends, and news, and respond to comments and messages in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with the Social Media Coordinator and YMCA of the Triangle staff and volunteers to gather content, stories and photos for social media post to help increase awareness of the YMCA brand.
- Collaborate with the Social Media Coordinator to coordinate social media campaigns and promotions to drive membership growth, program participation, and community support.
- Track and analyze social media metrics and assist in the preparation of monthly reports delivered to the Director of Digital Content and Sr. Vice President of Marketing & Communications to evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns and inform future strategies.
- Stay informed about social media trends, best practices, emerging technologies to recommend innovative approaches for expanding our audience and its engagement.
- Assist the Director of Digital Content to plan, schedule and execute video shoots with our staff, members and participants to tell the story of the Y’s impact in the community.
- Support the curating and editing of video assets for the YMCA Marketing & Communications team.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
- Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Pursuing a degree in Communications, Journalism or related field preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft engaging content tailored to diverse audiences.
- Relevant coursework or experience in social media, digital marketing or content creation is preferred.
- Some experience with online content design tools is helpful.
- Experience in capturing video and photos specifically for social media is preferred.
- Proficiency in social media management tools, analytics platforms and basic graphic design software.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Multi-lingual desired but not required
