What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher-Power Scholars-Poe Elementary-YMCA of the Triangle position at YMCA OF THE TRIANGLE AREA?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Director of Power Scholars, the Power Scholars Teacher is responsible for planning and teaching the academic and enrichment curriculum for their assigned classroom and for the safety of children in their care.
They are responsible for managing these functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Interpret, communicate and promote Y mission, goals, and objectives.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with other staff.
- Promote, foster and support the Y’s commitment to access, inclusion and engagement for all by engaging diverse populations in a welcoming environment.
- Interact and build relationships with children on an on-going basis during program times, exercising sensitivity to the needs of each child.
- Responsible for safety and well-being of all children in the program.
- Completes all assigned pre-program trainings before the start of the program.
- Completes all assigned pre-program lesson plans before the start of the program.
- Plan, prepare, and implement daily academic and enrichment lessons, in accordance with assigned program.
- Responsible for taking daily attendance using the BellXcel platform.
- Responsible for collecting student progress data including completing pre and post assessments by assigned deadlines.
- Communicate with the Site Director concerning daily lesson plans and the status of the children in the program.
- Maintains an open line of communication.
- Provides discipline, direction and motivation in accordance with YMCA discipline policy.
- Provides direction and motivation for children in the program.
- Responsible for maintaining accurate records for each child.
- May aid in the development and/or improvement of program curricula.
- Attends all staff meetings and trainings as required.
- Attends all field trips.
- Responsible for being prepared and proactive in all aspects of the program.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certified classroom teacher with 2 years of experience leading children.
- Must have a strong background in group control, planning and organizing.
- Ability to work with and motivate parents, staff, and children.
- Must be sensitive and mature and able to provide leadership to staff and children.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Multi-lingual desired but not required.
