What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Programs Director-Kraft Family YMCA position at YMCA of the Triangle?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Sr. Member Engagement Director and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, the Family Programs Director plans, promotes, implements, and manages a variety of membership activities. As a member of the branch membership team, they will work to strengthen relationships among members through family activities, coaching and creative programs that align with the YMCA of the Triangle long range plan. The Family Programs Director will be responsible for managing such programs in accordance with established policies and expectations of the YMCA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Promotes and delivers high-quality family programs serving members and program participants with an intentional focus on families, relationships and engagement
- Actively accountable for Kid Zone care that includes all aspects of Kids Zone programs; program quality, budget development/management, staffing, publishing pertinent information, an explanation of programs offered and is actively updated with the member’s best interest in mind. Developing this schedule includes tracking class attendance, making changes based on need and keeping consistent/quality information on web and app.
- Serves as part of the membership team focusing on member engagement through family programming including but not limited to kid zone care, family programming babies through high school, mental health initiatives, and programming ensuring consistency with the YMCA mission and aimed at inclusion, diversity, and creativity.
- Develops innovative programming to address identified needs in our Y and community to enhance our current offerings. Staffs and implements these programs and collects and reviews data to determine impact and sustainability.
- Responsible to lead initiatives for families at the branch. Works towards developing better systems and processes to ensure deeper connectedness among members and create an environment that supports overall health and well-being of our family members. Increasing opportunities for members 6 weeks to 17
- Assists with planning, promotion, and execution of broader family programs initiatives and events i.e family challenges, health fairs, and family weekends, etc.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations around families.
- Recruits and hires diverse staff across multiple dimensions of diversity. Responsible for onboarding and developing them for success through training, leading, scheduling, and evaluating to meet the needs of the community. Provides strong leadership and accountability to staff.
- Collaborates with other departments to strengthen membership engagement through cross promotion and coordinated programming.
- Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility to both members and staff.
- Develops and leads an enthusiastic, energetic team that engages with members, is open to new ideas, and collaboration. Promotes and ensures an active staff culture based on our Mission and Cause and our Commitment to Serve.
- Regularly conducts scheduled audits of programs to ensure programs are being led within YMCA guidelines and to provide excellent feedback to staff for their growth.
- Responsible for to ensuring child-are areas are in good order, welcoming and clean.
- Has a strong presence being visible and available to serve the membership base including some early mornings, evenings, and weekends; committed to building positive, genuine relationships with members and staff. Provides direct leadership as needed.
- Responsible for implementing annual budget according to guidelines.
- Leads high quality staff meetings.
- Participates in Association Membership initiatives. (IQ Work)
- Fulfills on call duties as a lead engagement director for certain shifts monthly
- Assists with the YMCA Annual Campaign through development of staff team, recruiting volunteers and meeting annual fundraising goals as assigned.
- Other duties as determined by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor degree in a health/exercise field preferred. 3-5 years of wellness experience required.
- Must have a high level of initiative, be a self-starter and have the ability to development relationships with members
- Must possess or be willing to obtain certifications in ASHI BLS, First Aid, and a nationally recognized group fitness certification.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Demonstrated experience in community relations, customer service and leadership of a large group of people.
- Ability to attract, retain, lead and motivate quality staff and volunteer leadership.
- Must possess strong communication and computer literacy skills
- Must have commitment to the mission of the YMCA and uphold its values and ethics.
- Multi-lingual desired but not required.
