GSCY is seeking an Associate Aquatics Director at our Somerset Hills YMCA branch located in Basking Ridge, NJ.
Job Description
Reporting to the Director of Aquatics the primary function of the Associate Aquatics Director is the coordination and day to day supervision of the Lifeguard, Swim/Aquacise Instructor and Deck Supervisor staff which includes training/certification, skill assessment and hiring. An additional key responsibility is to act as the leader/first responder in the event of an Emergency, either accidental or facility related, in the Aquatics Department. Secondary responsibilities include daily pool maintenance and shutdown cleaning scheduling and conduction. Some evening and weekend hours required.

Qualifications
- BS in Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field.
- Current knowledge of all required aquatics training and certifications to include American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor or must be able to obtain.
- Pool Operator certification a plus.
- This position also requires Bloodborne Pathogens and HAZMAT, Oxygen Administration and related courses as well as knowledge of the NJ Bathing Code, will train.
- Position requires a strong background in Lifeguard responsibilities and procedures with a minimum of five (5) years as a Lifeguard and/or Swim/Aquacise Instructor.
- Minimum one year as a Deck Supervisor preferably in a multiple-pool and/or water play feature facility.
- Excellent organizational, member engagement, staff development, administrative and communication skills
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Has solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel
- Responsible for serving as the direct supervisor for all Deck Supervisors, Swim/Aquacise Instructors and Lifeguards in conjunction with or in the absence of the Director of Aquatics.
- Assist in the recruitment, hiring, training, development and evaluation of Aquatics program staff. Determine the growth, development, and operation of the Aquatics department in conjunction with the Director of Aquatics.
- Coordinate and schedules private swim lessons, swim classes, water exercise classes, open lane swim and birthday parties and pool rentals.
- Responsible for training all Aquatics staff on emergency response and opening and closing procedures, Blood Borne Pathogen/HAZMAT, and Child Abuse Prevention Training.
- Teach swim lessons, water exercise, swim instructor and LGI trainings and other aquatic classes as needed.
- Responsible for coverage of all assigned lifeguard and/or swim instructor shifts.
- Responsible for planning and conducting monthly in-service trainings for Aquatics staff who hold Lifeguard certification.
- Responsible for running YMCA and American Red Cross certification or re-certification classes for current staff and membership population.
- Responsible for maintaining certification records. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
- Responsible for maintaining a clean pool environment to include properly testing of pool chemicals for proper balance and filtration systems, cleaning all decks, equipment, stainless steel, and slides with the assistance of Lifeguards.
- Responsible for daily pool maintenance. Schedule and assist with yearly shutdown cleaning scheduling and conduction.
- Assist in meeting annual campaign goals and organizing volunteers to lead in the annual community support campaign.
- Maintain rescue and first aid equipment.
- Responsible for complying with all Greater Somerset County YMCA Policies and Procedures
- Adheres and incorporates the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility and educates members about the YMCA mission and goals.
- Responsible for promoting Aquatics programs, including developing program information for the website, programming guide, social media, etc.
- Assist with collaborating and building relationships within the Branch, Association and community organizations, in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Aquatics.
