POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Custodial Staff at the Putnam County YMCA provides a facility that is clean, welcoming, safe, friendly, and supportive while fostering positive relationships with members and staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Conduct routine inspections and perform preventative maintenance tasks, including HVAC filter changes, and minor repairs, and monitor building systems for safety and efficiency.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in high-traffic areas, including entrances, locker rooms, restrooms, and wellness spaces, to ensure a welcoming environment.
- Support outdoor upkeep by removing debris, managing snow and ice, and inspecting sidewalks and parking lots for safety concerns.
- Inspect and perform minor maintenance on wellness equipment, ensuring functionality and coordinating repairs as needed.
- Respond promptly to maintenance and cleaning requests, addressing issues to ensure member and staff satisfaction.
- Perform periodic deep cleaning and upkeep of facility features, such as carpets, walls, and ceiling fixtures.
- Monitor and maintain supplies for maintenance and cleaning tasks, ensuring necessary stock levels.
- Assist with setup and teardown for events and maintain logs of maintenance activities for accurate record-keeping.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and implement safety protocols during all tasks.
- Collaborate with supervisors to develop and follow preventative maintenance and cleaning schedules.
- Perform other duties as assigned to maintain the facility’s safety, functionality, and cleanliness.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous commercial cleaning experience is preferred
- CPR/AED and First Aid required within 90 days of hire
- Experience in custodial work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Ability to demonstrate detailed work with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to meet tight time constraints and organize tasks to meet deadlines.
