About the Role:

The Sports Monitor at the Vigo County YMCA plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants in various sports activities. This position involves overseeing sports programs, facilitating games, and providing guidance to participants of all ages and skill levels. The Sports Monitor will be responsible for enforcing safety protocols and promoting sportsmanship among players. Additionally, this role requires effective communication with both participants and their families to enhance their experience at the YMCA. Ultimately, the Sports Monitor contributes to the overall mission of the YMCA by fostering a love for sports and physical activity within the community.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in sports or recreational activities, either as a participant or in a coaching role.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience working with children and youth in a sports or recreational setting.
  • Knowledge of various sports rules and regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and monitor sports activities to ensure safety and adherence to rules.
  • Provide instruction and support to participants, helping them improve their skills.
  • Organize and facilitate games and tournaments, ensuring fair play and sportsmanship.
  • Communicate effectively with participants and their families regarding schedules and program details.
  • Maintain equipment and facilities, ensuring they are safe and ready for use.

The required skills for this position include strong communication abilities, which are essential for interacting with participants and their families effectively. Organizational skills are also crucial, as the Sports Monitor will need to coordinate games and manage schedules efficiently.
