POSITION SUMMARY:
To assist the Girls Camp Director in assessing cabin counselor performance daily to assure standards are maintained. Train and develop staff members, while providing feedback that allows for the continual growth and development of staff. Ensure that female campers and staff are physically and emotionally safe at camp, while also having fun.

- Assist Girls Camp Director in assessing cabin counselor performance daily to assure standards are maintained.
- Be present in the cabin areas on a daily basis (all meals, program times, during shower and devotion periods).
- Interact with campers and staff on a daily basis.
- Conduct face checks to ensure that all staff and campers are present at the appropriate times.
- Provide direction to both staff and campers who are not following rules or contractual obligations.
- Assist in the supervision during shower and devotional times.
- Coordinate and supervise cabin night activity.
- Manage “area duty” responsibilities of female staff members.
- Assist in the collection and sorting of bridge laundry for all female bridge campers and staff members.
- Assist in providing feedback that allows for effective growth and development of female staff members.
- Conduct regular area meetings.
- Lend support to female staff members after lights out in the cabin areas.
- Observe, correct and evaluate female staff members concerning their interactions and leadership with campers.
- Assist in the completion of written mid-season and end of season evaluations for each female staff member. Verbally go over these evaluations with the staff member.
- Conduct cabin cleanliness checks on Opening and Closing Day of each session.
- Ensure that female campers and staff are physically and emotionally safe, while also having fun at Camp Cherokee.
- Greet and accommodate parents as needed on Opening day.
- Visit any camper or female staff member that may be in the Health Center.
- Check e-mails and voicemails daily, communicate directly with parents concerning their camper(s).
- Contact parents of all first year campers by Wednesday of each session.
- Assist in the management and return of all lost and found items.
- Assist other program staff when needed.
- Opening/Closing Day Responsibilities.
- Assist Evening Program Director.
- Plan and supervise campers and staff during “bridge” sessions.
- Actively assist in “OD” responsibilities.
- Assist with supervision during off site trips.
- Select an Honor Cabin at the end of each session; present the honor creatively at closing banquet.
- Assist in delivering mail.
- Identify and manage cabin supply needs.
- Additional responsibilities as directed by the camp director team.
- Physical requirements of the Girl’s Camp Director at Camp Cherokee include endurance during prolonged activities, bending, stooping and lifting. Other physical aspects include the ability to observe, manage and evaluate both staff members and campers. Ensure that staff and camper morale are always in a positive manner.
Qualifications:
- Must be 19 years of age or have completed at least two years of college.
- Must be certified in First Aid and CPR.
- Must attend all pre-camp training, retreats, and opening training session.
- Possess leadership qualities and ability to use sound judgment.
- Good health, enthusiasm, individual maturity, moral character, team qualities, and communication skills.
- Possess interest in the development of children.
- Must be able to endure hot temperatures, physical exertion, manual labor, behavioral conflicts, and must be able to walk, run, and swim every day.
