FUNCTION
Under supervision of the Aquatics Director, communicates effectively and provides services in instructional areas of aquatic programs according to YMCA policies, while maintaining a safe environment. Assists in the development of policies, procedures, scheduling and budgets.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Hires, trains, evaluates and monitors part-time staff.
- Responsible for making monthly lifeguard schedules.
- Coordinate Y-Splash program.
- Assist in the development of safety policies and procedures.
- Assist with budget development, preparation and administration.
- Promote and execute fundraising activities and events.
- Maintain pool water, systems and area.
- Order and maintain pool equipment and supplies.
- Assist in scheduling programs and pool usage.
- Fill in when needed for Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, and Water Aerobics.
- Prepare and order program supplies and materials.
- Assist in the development of new aquatic programs.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
- Demonstrate strong customer service and hospitality skills.
- Other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling.
- Frequent lifting of up to 10 lbs, occasional lifting of up to 100 lbs.
- Frequent exposure to wet and humid conditions
- Physical and mental requirements for the certification course outlined in Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
- 2-year degree preferred
- 2-4 years aquatic experience required
- Current lifeguard certification required, American Red Cross Lifeguard preferred
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor preferred
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications
- Certified Pool Operator license preferred or obtained within six months of hire
- Experience teaching swim lessons preferred
- Water Fitness Instruction experience preferred, but not required.
