What are the responsibilities and job description for the Childcare Specialist - Kirk Family YMCA position at YMCA of Virginia's Blue Ridge?
To manage and maintain our high quality and growing childcare program. Be a liaison between Y After School, and Summer Camp program participants and parents, schools, staff, and the community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill the YMCA’s objectives.
- Lead enrichment activities (arts, STEM, health & wellness, global learning & inclusion, leadership development, etc) while helping with homework and reading.
- Supervise a group of elementary age children and facilitate daily activities.
- Be an example in leadership for new and exiting staff in how to run an effective program that is in line with our mission.
- Maintains incident reports and writes summaries of any investigations of incidents/injuries that may occur.
- Assists with maintaining proper registration for program participants and staff.
- Monitors daily program operations to adhere to all state and YMCA health and safety regulations.
- Staff scheduling.
- Assist in developing and maintaining a positive child care staff to include training to maintain their required 16 hours of continuing education credits per year.
- Attend and participate in program activities, staff meetings, and required staff trainings.
- Assist with parent communication on a daily basis through emails, memos, parent boards regarding calendar and curriculum updates as well as any events or issues.
- Additional duties assigned and required by supervisors to support the overall mission of the YMCA and promote the success of Childcare Development.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Must be CPR, MAT and Diabetic certified within three months of hire. (YMCA will assist with this process.)
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with other staff, participants and parents, colleagues, community partners.
- Ability to direct programs through supervision of staff and program development.
- Ability to plan, organize, and implement program activities.
- Must be 21 years of age
- Experience with assisting with curriculum implementation, classroom management, and parental communication, preferred.
- Meet educational and experience qualifications as set forth by state licensing regulations (ex. Associates degree in education, early education, or related field or equivalent years of experience).
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
- Able to work independently and manage office as well as in a classroom setting.
- Physically able to assist and participate in children’s activities.
- Required skills in all Microsoft Office and Excel applications and other software required and on the job training will be provided as needed.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be flexible with changes in tasks required.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
