What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paint Class Instructor - Salem Family YMCA position at YMCA of Virginia's Blue Ridge?
Under the guidance of the Youth and Family Program Director, plans and implements paint classes for ages 7 and up.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ensures proper technique and safe teaching skill development.
- Ensure a safe and fun atmosphere for children and adults to learn
- Explains and demonstrates use of supplies and equipment.
- Plans and executes painting classes to engage and interest children and families
- Observe participants during class to detect and correct mistakes always encouraging positive feedback.
- Be able to allow someone else to have a different perspective, vision of the art
- Keeps records of attendance.
- Notify supervisor of any damaged equipment or shortages.
- Wear appropriate activity attire.
- Arrives early enough to prepare properly for class.
- Starts and ends class on scheduled time
- Motivate and encourage participants with positive feedback
- Organize and maintain all equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Regularly required to talk or hear.
- Required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to touch, handle; or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; kick, run or jump and taste or smell.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 45 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience or education with children, adults and instructional painting projects.
